Thankfully the Judge is excluded.

If you own a Taurus semi-auto handgun, you may want to check the model number for several of them have been recalled for a safety defect. And a lawsuit settlement has been reached regarding them, with their Brazil-based company.
According to Grand View Outdoors, Taurus SA has agreed to a $39 million settlement in a class action suit alleging that some of the company’s most popular semi-auto handguns can discharge when dropped due to a defective safety, and can discharge even when engaged.
Christian Lowe of Grandview Outdoors writes that a suit filed on May 15 in U.S. District Court in Florida, where Taurus’s U.S. sales office is located, says the company has agreed to pay up to $30 million to owners of nine separate handgun models who opt to send their pistols back. As such, owners who opt for this settlement will receive anywhere from $150-$200 for their pistols depending upon how many they chose to return.

Poor people's problems. Actually, I'd be concerned like a MoFo if I owned any.

guy came in the store a few weeks ago and asked to see a Taurus. he was like "so what are the best things about this gun?" I was like "well.....it has a lifetime warranty" and some guy at the other end of the counter was like "yeah, you'll be using it."
i couldn't hold it in and just lost my shite. the guy put the gun on the counter and rolled out.

Haven't seen the 392. You mean the 692 Sporting that I showed you?

Yep just had a moment of retardation blending numbers thinking of the ole 391 one of my guys was talking about today.
Do you still have a 692 on the shelf?

I happen own a PT 111. Been having it over 20 years and thousands of rounds been thru it and never jammed. Also have a revolver that is built off S&W 629 that is over 35 years old. No problems with it.

I got the Mill G2 and it is a great gun.

I happen to really like my .44 mag and the judge is a good frick off gun. Both Taurus. They've probably had more rounds down the pipe than any of my other guns. Not a single problem with either.

Not quite. Sounds like your typical internet coolaid talk.

Compared to all the options you have in revolvers and semi auto's, Taurus is at the bottom. It's a cheap gun and the quality reflects it.

I have a Taurus. 38 revolver that is real good. We'll made, smooth action.
Two clues as to why: bought in 2002, made in Brazil.

Taurus is cheaper than some other manufacturers for several reasons.
First, they are a steel manufacturing company which makes them 100% self sufficient, as they do not have to contract out parts. For the record, Brazil's steel manufacturing is second to none in strength and quality. Many try to duplicate Brazil's steel technology unsuccessfully. It explains why Taurus is the only company, to date, that can manufacture a copy of the Winchester 92 that is strong enough to handle the 454 Cassull cartridge.
Second, labor is cheaper in Brazil than other countries like the U.S., Austria or Germany. It is the reason why companies like Springfield contract out companies in Brazil to manufacture some of their parts and sometimes complete firearms.
By no means am I saying Taurus was always a reliable brand. When they first started out they had a lot to learn. This problem was mostly solved when they became a conglomerate with none other than Smith and Wesson. Both freely traded technology secrets, and both prospered from it.
As far as this recall, it happens to all firearm manufacturers at some point or another, but I don't hear people bashing S&W, Springfield or countless others including the Great Glock Recall of '92. Oh wait, those were deemed "upgrades"...

quote:What is your reasoning for this? Do you have a story of a guy who knew a guy who walked into a gun shop and said to another guy, "Taurus is crap. End of discussion"? Or did you get your information from the internet? Both are solid sources.

That's generally what happens when you make shitty guns.
