I want to catch some of the ones building in the hwy 71 yards south of Lebeau. I bet they are some colorful type and neither red swamp nor river white.

I used to cut grass over here at nicholls on the side. Had to weedeat the ditches a lot. Some of them get pretty deep with constant water. fricking crawfish everywhere. Thought many a time about dropping a few nets.

You got kids?

You got any low spots in the yard that holds water?

Tell the kids to take down the crawfish towers/mounds and put in the low spots to help fix some of the flooding in those areas.

That's what my dad made me do before he started cutting grass so he didn't dull the blades/cake the mower with mud.

Buncha no-knowing naturalists on this site.

The name you're looking for is Painted Devil Crawfish. We in south LA know them as "Coffin Cutters." They're actually a quite attractive crawfish.

In the yard it's likely Digger Crawfish (Fallicambarus fodiens) or Painted Devil Crawfish (Cambarus ludovicianus). The latter are the ones that make the giant mounds that come up to your knee almost.

There are just so many species and many have an incredibly small range.

Good read.

And crawfish love isn’t confined to South Louisiana. Each May, Shreveport — that most un-Cajun of Louisiana cities — holds Mudbug Madness, a four-day blowout on the banks of the Red River.

Assholes.
