I love how all the photos of these “black panthers” are usually an iPhone 4 from 300 yards away and they are going to say for sure what it is.

That could very well be a small barbeque pit.

There’s an equal amount here. Everybody has seen one. Some people have even killed them but hid the evidence so they didn’t get in trouble. From the reports, it seems as though the largest herd is along the Mississippi River. Followed by the swamps south of Plaquemine, La, including pigeon and sorrel. Everybody and their pawpaw seent them!

An expert with the state agency believes the creature photographed in Walker County on Saturday was most likely a house cat, though it notes the photo quality makes it difficult to decipher. "It is certainly not a mountain lion based on the tail length (or a jaguarundi)," TPWD wrote. "Size can be tough to tell in photos and unless you have a good reference, 'apparent size' is often misleading."

Definitely a catsquatch based on the signature blurry appearance. (RIP in peace Mitch Hedberg)

The mountain lion/panther groups on Facebook are a lot of fun to read through when you're bored.
this guy saw "I saw a juvenile black panther in Kingsport". I'm guessing he means a black housecat.

I caught one of those juvenile black panthers the other night prowling my property. Hide your livestock!

I bout got fooled like this two days ago. Sitting on my Mom's couch in KY looking out of her living room windows at the steep mountain directly in front of her house. I see a black feline moving around behind some mountain laurel. It looked enormous and I jumped off the couch to get a closer look out the window. Turns out it was the neighbors male house cat once I saw the white paws. The mountain is steep but the horizontal distance was only 50-60 yards according to Google Earth. Made him look huge.

It appears your resident panther has the uncanny ability and intelligence to wear white socks upon its feet.

A new subspecies perhaps, worthy of study?
