Known wear item and one that lasts about 5000 rounds. You'll shoot more than the cost of the pistol before that is a concern.

Hated the M9, hate the M9, will continue to hate the M9 -

BUT, glad that fans of the pistol have a new model.

Sigs and Glocks don't have that flap at all...

(Just sayin'...)

I like the M9s but really can't stand the safety on them. I just don't like how they are mounted or the action of them.

I shoot that many rounds every 2-3 months.

I'm not doubting your figure, but there's no reason that a locking block should fail that often ...... one more reason to carry an M&P, Glock, HK or SIG.

chrome-lined barrel

Waste and less accurate from what I've read. Chrome-lining is for auto fire longevity also from what I've read.

Doesn't seem like a 400 dollar upgrade.

It's more accurate than you will ever be. Also, Beretta has been making barrels longer than anyone else, pretty sure they know what they are doing. New, frame design, new slide design, new barrel, upgraded trigger parts, new magazines too.

It may be a minute difference in accuracy in handguns but why even put it in there? What's the line when companies put a feature on a gun that is tacticool to sell or for actual benefit to cost ratio?

Nah.

But if its good enough for Riggs and McClane then I don't see a problem..

Military specifications, easier to clean, durability, corrosion resistance...all the same reasons the military rifles are chrome lined. I know that some still think rapid fire is the main reason but that thin layer of chrome offers virtually no protection from flame cutting at the throat of the chamber compared to unlined barrels in military tests.

Meh, Glocks and most other handguns don't seem to have a problem with durability or ease of cleaning.

Or locking blocks.

The Army tested the Glock and some tests it really did not do very well compared to the Beretta. One of those had to do with durability in extreme environments.

Probably because they have their own issues...

I bought the first M9A3 from Bowie. It is my first Beretta so I can't compare it to any of its predecessors BUT I can say this; I along with some friends shot it Saturday along side my PPQ M2, an M&P 9 with an Apex trigger, and a Glock 19 and everyone really liked the feel and performance of the Beretta alot. It is apples to oranges when comparing some of those but I have never seen 3 people pick up a gun and all shoot it noticeably better than the others on the table like that. We will see how it performs and holds up long term. I am happy with it so far.

Like em? I've been eyeing it as my next pistol purchase.

I sorta doubt that's a 5000 round maintenance issue.

It's actually 20,000 rds for the Beretta. I confused the recoil spring which has a 5000rd replacement schedule which is similar to what Glock recommends on their Gen 4 pistols. Earlier gens can have a much lower round count depending on the model. Oops...
