Two sides to every story but that is a little much in front of kids regardless. This is recent and they are apparently getting blasted on Facebook pretty bad. This is YouTube link of it bc I don’t have Facebook. Two Conch charters out of Marathon FL

Team captain here if you go read both sides of the story
The dad was told multiple times to stay away from the helm and ended up engaging the engine in full throttle and almost throwing the captain into the prop. Dad knew he fricked up and even tipped $200 after the rampage. Dad is a typical looking douchebag who ordered his Huk shirt and columbia hat for this one trip.

These are the ppl I took out and posted the video. I’m posting these pics to show you what happened after the video was taken. I would never in my life want any kids to see their dad being told how it is and how’s it’s gonna be but with how the guy was acting after him putting his family and myself in danger, he was very arrogant and just didn’t comprehend what he just did. Don’t be fooled, he didn’t slip into full throttle. Instead he wondered in the helm area, turned towards the motor and leaned onto the console and pushed the shifter to full throttle after telling them to stay out of the area several times. The video was edited for a 1 sided story, they left out the way the was talking to me otherwise you would know exactly why I went off on him. I started to head in, after a few miles he repeatedly apologized. I apologized as well , had a talk with them and decided to keep going. I’m guessing he had a few mins to realize what he did. We fished 4 more hours after the video and tipped me $200. All pics were taken after the video and at the dock. I didn’t have a single issue with them at all the last 4hrs. They actually listened and caught some nice fish.
From the company:

Recently, there’s been a video posted by one of the customers that Capt. Chris Lassen had out on his charter. Capt. Chris was in the back of the boat and he was dealing with some mahi that they just caught and the client mistakenly ?slid into the throttle’s and forced Chris off the back of the boat and he landed on the dive platform which saved him from going into the motor. Of course, he got heated in the situation and said some things that we do not condone at any time. Once he calm down the customers and him spoke, and they decided to still continue the charter and ended up catching mahi-mahi. At the end of the day I believe both parties were wrong with what they did and the customer did end up tipping Capt. Chris $200 for his services. Hopefully, this is a lesson for both people to be careful of the throttle situation, and be careful on how to react in front of kids in a situation like this, even though your life could’ve been a danger. Capt. Chris this year alone has been accredited with saving 5 lives on the water. 2 were missing divers at Sunset and 3 were Cuban Refugees on a sinking raft. Capt. Jack Carlson

If the dad was told numerous times not to be around the throttle and then put the boat not only in gear but at even 1/4 throttle I get the freak-out tbh. Easing on a throttle when you're expecting it can put you on your @ss let alone randomly going into gear at a decent speed when you're not expecting it.

No sir. It is his responsibility to keep everyone safe. If he felt the guy would not do as he asked, he should have taken them back in. He should have never freaked out like that. It is not acceptable.
Guy has some issues and does not need to be taking charter trips out where HE is responsible for the safety of others.
Everything that happens on that boat is his call.

I think it’s evident that both sides knew they were wrong by the fact that once everyone chilled they all apologized and continued to fish.
Just weird that the douche would tip the captain $200 yet still post the video and get cancel culture after him
Edit: he’s been fired, cancel culture wins again!!!!

Whole thing seems strange if both stories are true.
The customers and captain apologized to each other and then fished 4 more hours, caught some fish, then went back. OT thread has the captains FB post about the incident with some dock pics of the customers posing with fish and smiling and said they tipped $200
I get it if the customer tried to smooth things over so they could keep fishing and get their money’s worth and not completely ruin the trip for the kids. I don’t know how far away they traveled from, so it might be a once in a long time type of trip. But if the captain going on that rampage was enough to post a video blasting them online, then I damn sure wouldn’t have been tipping the guy $200 and letting him take dock shots of my family posing with fish and smiling for him to use on his own social media.

What a freaking mess. Sounds like fault lies all around and only the kid knows what really happened. And I doubt he will ever forget it. I sure hope it wasn’t the first and last fishing trip for this kid and his father. It’s like launching your boat at a public launch for the first time. Some people get it and help and some people are a-holes and expect perfection so they can save 5-10 minutes.

It’s been a long and hot summer. Seems like the guy knew he messed up and the captain put his foot down but didn’t go on the tirade the video title leads on. The captain is out there almost everyday and knows just how dangerous a situation can be and how fast it can go from all fun to disastrous. Plus the guy sounds like he might have a foreign accent. This might be one of his first few times on the water like this.
I’m on the captains side when he says he told the guy numerous times what to do and not to do. I highly doubt the captain didn’t go over any safety protocols. Captain might be at the end of his rope but no excuse to go off in front of a kid. Glad it worked out in the end for both.

My understanding is the family was foreign. Not sure, but maybe there was a language or communication barrier.
Secondly, “the typical douche” is the guy who makes or breaks their business. I’m sure even the Captain understands that.

I completely agree that it's bullshite to post this video on social media with no context. This situation should've been handled with Two Conchs directly. That said, this dude was totally out of line. Anyone who has spent any time running trips, inshore or offshore, understands that you have to learn how to fish with idiots. If your clients are not listening to you, messing with the helm, or otherwise violating your rules or no-go zones such that they are endangering you or anybody else on the boat, then the response is simple. The trip is over and we are going home. I would say this diligence on the captain's part is even more important offshore because of the fact that the engines are always on and almost always in gear.
If the boat were full of adults, cool. Freak out and curse everybody out if it makes you feel better, but be prepared for cancel culture to come for your arse. With two really young kids on the boat, no. They'll remember that for the rest of their lives. I read the captain's side of the story and I understand it, but at the end of the day, fishing is a business and you should conduct yourself like a respectable adult. This dude just seems unstable.
I understand we're debating opinions here on how we think things "should be," but regardless, no rational human should be surprised about anything negative coming this captain's or Two Conchs' way because of this video.

Excellent take, couldn’t agree more. If he’d gone off on me like that in front of my young boys, I might have pinned his foot to the deck with his fillet knife. Just me and my buddies in the boat is one thing, trying to ream my arse in front of my kids is not ok.

I am having a hard time picking sides. This guy was way beyond frustrated. Sounds to me like he should’ve just taken them in early. But the Dad refusing to listen and putting people at risk had to be incredibly frustrating.
The language was too much. Guides take noobs out every day. So it was more than incompetence tgst set him off

After going through something like this, the Captain is responsible for everything in the boat, good or bad.
I feel for him losing his job, but in the end it is on him.

Simple - NEVER leave the helm with the boat in gear.

after dealing with customers in my trade daily for many years, its not uncommon to see this.
in most cases like this, the tip was an apology, but with expected strings attached, when the customers didnt receive an apology from the captain after the tip, so then they retaliated by trying to cause issues with the business by posting the video
glad the company was able to set the record straight and charter captains are a small group who communicate with each other so i bet that guy has trouble getting another charter boat to ever take them out again, especially after trying to hurt the business for a situation the customer caused to happen

It's not that easy fishing offshore - especially on a smaller boat without a deckhand.
