Thoughts on the Bayou 220?

I just saw somebody selling a 1998 kawasaki bayou 220 on facebook. They said they just rebuilt the carbs and it starts on the first pull (it needs a new batter). They are asking 600 for it. Good deal or naw? (if it does indeed run well)

I have had several Kawi atvs. The 220 was a good small bike that was nice and light. I never had any trouble out of it. I think it was am 01 model. I'd pay $600 for one in decent condition.
Disclaimer - I currently have a Honda atv & a Kawi sxs.

I think it is definitely worth $600 if all is well. Take it for a ride.
I have a '94 I bought from workmate for $400 about 6 years ago. Currently, the drive shaft bearing to the rear end is out. Very expensive assembly to replace. But there are some work around fixes on the internet. Just haven't had time to mess with it. Also, carburetor leaks out of the overflow. Taken it apart several times. Only thing I can figure is the float valve seat is not sealing, or the float has lost some buoyancy somehow. I just put an in-line valve to shut it off. Aside from those issues, the engine runs perfect and is surprisingly fast. I think of the B220 as one of those bullet proof classics.

I had a 1992 bayou 220. First 4wheeler. Was bullet-proof. I'd pay $600 for one.

They are some good little bikes. Handle well and peppy for their size. My brother had one, don’t remember any issues with it.

Not a bad deal, not a steal.. Good little bike for its size. Don’t enjoy finding parts for Kawasaki’s when working on them though.

I have so many memories on a Bayou 220. It was the first 4 wheeler my pawpaw got after getting rid of his 2 wheeler. I want to say it was 93 or 94. It's the 4 wheeler I learned how to operate one on. When he was offshore and we were at my grandparents I used to drive it all around the house over and over all day. Drove it off the bulkhead into the lake once on accident also. Thanks god the lake was drained for the winter, but I still almost killed myself on it. Looked like superman hanging on with my feet in the air behind me. I also used it to launch jetskis with. Would hook the tandem trailer to the ball and back it down the ramp into the lake. It's amazing that little bike was able to do that. I wish we still had it in the family. Would be perfect for me to teach my boys how to ride one. His had the gray and teal color scheme.

Rode the piss out of one for years as a teenager. Brakes were always out, but that was about the only issue. Good little bikes for sure.

All this. I use to love riding the 220. was just the right size before ATVs went insane and they decided they needed to be the size of a ford ranger.

I'm actually looking to get 1 for my son. There's a guy in our lease who has 1 for his kid. I didn't have my bike 1 weekend and he let me ride it. I weigh around 250 and took that little 2 wd bike through some pretty deep shite.
For 600, I'd get it.

You damn right about that. I have a 98 Honda 300 that can do just about everything those 10,000 CC can ams can. Maybe even more. That 54% gear reduction helps a lot haha.

Lot of love for the bayous in here. I may have to go get the old one at my parents place and get it running. Sounds like there’s a decent demand.

I would buy it at $600. I have a 2003 250 that I picked up for $400. Great little bike. Hauls me and my son with our guns and decoys to some public lamd duck spots. Hauls me and my daughter deer hunting. If it gets stuck, you just hop off and lift it out since it is so light. Reliable bike that does what you need and will usually run forever.

Normal problems for the 220. The drive shaft bearing is easy to fix and not to bad on the pocket book.
I have a 1990 that still runs like a top. Bought it new way back then. Only one front tire bearing, drive shaft bearing and the muffler has been replaced in all those years.

I bought two of them around 2003, got them when my son was around 8 or 9. We ran the crap out of them and they were rock solid. Just changed oil and the filters and minor things. Sold one of them to a guy at work for his kid and the other one is still going strong.

I second this, my brother, cousin and I each had one about '93 vintage. RAN THE CRAP out of them for years.
Front brakes were pretty much constantly out. We ran ours in the woods in Concordia parish and the front wheel bearings stayed out from the mud (and on really cold mornings the water in those bearings would freeze and we'd have to thaw them).
The floats in the Carbs were pretty bad about sticking and if you were going to haul it you need turn the gas off to help prevent that.
More than once we hauled two bucks and two men deep out of the woods on one of those bikes.
One would actually be perfect for me now...

about the best little 4 wheeler ever.
The only one I like better,is the Suzuki quadrunner, because of the low and super low settings.

Definitely worth the $600. I bought a 98 model Bayou 300 in 1999. Used it until 2 seasons ago. I finally bough a SxS.
Great little 4 wheeler and worked great. Can be a little cold natured, but other than that, they work flawless.

I'm a Honda guy, but a Bayou 220 is the toughest little terd i've ever used.

I had a few friends that had those 220's back in the mid 90's. I remember them being pretty tough. Only problem they had was the front shocks wear out and it looks retarded when you ride on them like that lol. Besides that they a pretty tough lil bike.
