Father in law wants a new trail camera. Any if you familiar with Spypoint cameras? Rechargeable battery or just AA?

Spypoint cams are junk.
Tactacam takes way better pics and will actually work. Need to get a solar panel because you will go broke buying batteries.

I’ve been a big fan of my WiseEye cameras.
Stay away from spypoint.

Do not get spypoint if they give them to you, you will hate yourself for having to deal with them.
Tactacam is hard to beat I have one that’s been running year around for 3-4 seasons now with no issues.

If you're not going cellular, I second the Browning. I've been running a cheapie for years and it keeps going.
For cellular, I also recommend Tacticam. The only thing that stopped mine are squirrels chewing on it.

I have been running Moultrie Mobile cell cams for several years now after being disappointed by spypoint. Most online places have a sale for 2 of them for $99 right now. I've had a few of them that are 4 years old now and still working great. Definitely recommend.

I have one spypoint and would not buy another. Least reliable out of all the other brands I have experience with. They have a hard time maintaining the signal and sending pics, eat AA's very quickly, and burn out SD cards.
Moultrie's are the easiest to use and seem to do well.
Stealth continues to send notifications even after all the pictures have been sent.
Tacticam seems to be as good as any.

WiseEye is your only choice bud, great customer service, even better cameras.

Spypoint Flex series is amazing!!. We left tactacam because they just dont offere a solid camera and plan option. They are a cheap econimocal camera with issuses much like the link micros from spypoint. They get a bad rap for the link mirco line of cameras they put out a few years ago that offered a very economic camera to all hunters. But it was cheap and wasnt user friendly to older folks that dont understand tech. But again they were a super cheap camera that sufficed most needs. The Flex with detachable solar power systems are undefeated. We have had several out since late July early August and haven't touched them AT ALL!

WisEye. I have 6 and love them. I have a few trash Spypoint’s, when they die I’ll buy more WisEye’s.

I have two of these out in North La and I monitor them from DFW.
They are Walmart so you get what you pay for, I think mine were $45.00 each and you pay $8.00 a month for unlimited cell pics.
The daytime pics are a lot better than night

I had the SPYPOINT Link Micro LTE last year and it worked fine. Tried putting it back in the woods this year and I couldn’t get it to update the firmware - IMO, it’s the biggest issue with the camera. That said, I was done with SPYPOINT and was moving to Tactacam. However, they sent me a Flex-S at no cost as the Link was still under warranty and I love it. I opted for the AA battery option instead of purchasing the rechargeable battery. They recommended lithium batteries and that’s what I purchased. My camera has been in the woods since 10/24. The Flex shows to readings of 1) the solar life, which is just under 50% and 2) the AA batteries which fluctuates between 90-99% battery life. At this rate, I don’t see me needing to touch it until after the season. Maybe I got lucky, not sure. Just my two cents on SP.

This right here... I have 4 Wiseyes and am slowly transitioning all of my Tactacams out for Wiseyes.

I will put in my 2 cents worth. I have owned both Tactacams and Wiseeye. I enjoy both for what they are. I started with 2 Tactacam Reveal Generation 1. After about 2 to 3 years in the woods both just all of sudden gave up the ghost and would never reconnect with Verizon network. They were still useful as trail cameras but no longer would send me pictures. Before those 2 stop work, I bought a Tactacam Reveal X. It has been in the woods for the last 3 years without any major issues. My biggest issue with Tactacams is that I have been in the stand and watched deer walk right in front of the camera and never receive pictures. So I question how many pictures am I missing.
When the first Tactacam Gen 1 went out, I bought a Wiseeye based on recommendations. It has now been out in the woods the last 2 years and it has its own quirks. The seal doesn't really close well and water continues to get into camera case by the batteries. Here are my pros and cons for each listed below:
Tactacam:
Pros
Easy to setup
reliable for the most part
Great Battery Life
Cons:
Already had 2 cameras go bad.
As mentioned above, I have seen where it didn't take pictures.
SD Cards needs to be replaced too often.
Tech Support was cumbersome. They tried to handle everything through email vs. phone.
Wiseeye:
Pros
Easy to setup
Like the App better than Tactacam
Does a decent job deciding what it is taking a picture of.
Tech Support was great as they are located not to far from my house.
Cons:
Seal lets water into camera.
Lately it seems to be missing taking pictures. I have walked in front of it and it did not take a picture.
Started going through batteries quicker
Sensitivity picked up moving trees in background and would snap a ton of pictures.
Right now I have a Tactacam Reveal X, Tactacam Reveal Pro, and Wiseeye Mini-Cam MC1. If I was to buy again today, I would have a hard time choosing which one I would go with. I use my camera just to see what deer are in the area as when it gets closer to rut I will have a buck I have never seen just show up. That is why I try not to decide where I hunt based off the camera.

I’m running 9 tatacam reveals each with solar panels and rechargeable battery packs. I get hundreds of pics every day. Had these for 3 plus years with no issues.

Shotgun Wiliie,
I personally own cameras made Spypoint (1 LM2 and one LTE Micro Link) and Tactacam (Reveal 3.0 Pro). One of my hunting buddies has 2 Muddy cameras.
Expense (least--->most): Muddy>Spypoint>Tactacam
Customer Service (best--->worst) Spypoint (24 hr chatline)>Tactacam. My buddy hasn't had to use Muddy CS.
Picture plan, about the same w/ minor differences
Pic quality (best--->worst) Tactacam>Muddy>Spypoint
Battery life (shortest--->longest) Muddy>Spypoint>Tactacam
Warranty (longest--->shortest) Spypoint>Tactacam=Muddy
Set up (easiest--->hardest) Tactacam>Spypoint.
I started w/ Spypoint Micro Link LTE because one of my son-in-laws had them. It broke and was replaced after1 year by factory. I spent 3.5 hours on the chat line after which CS decided to replace it. Got an LM2 as replacement. Now I'm having problems getting the LM2 running. Next Spypoint was also a Micro Link LTE. It ran ok.
This year my son in law decided to change to Tactacam after he'd been burned on reliability of Spypoint. He'd had 5 Spypoints sent in and replaced by the factory. I decided to change to Tactacam as 2 of my hunting buddies also have Tactacams. I had difficulties getting my Tactactam running at first. Finally got it running, but it burned through batteries so that I had to change all 12 AA's' every week. Bought a rechargeable Lithium battery pack which lasted 12 days. Had email exchanges w/ Tactacam and they're sending me a replacement. Some really good features of my Tactacam that I like: it has internal memory so an external SD card is not needed; it's not tied to a particular cell network as it selects whatever cell network has the strongest signal. If you buy the Tactacam, I don't recommend spending extra money for camera screen feature (to see the cameras's point of view) like I did.
This is an industry in its infancy. In the near future, the industry standard will be determined for features, cost, plans, customer service, etc.

This x1000!
We're running Tacticam Reveal X Gen 3's. Cold weather absolutely destroys alkaline AA's. I get about 3 weeks out of them now that it's colder. I bough a 12 amp hour lithium battery that I installed in an external plastic ammo box and this setup has worked flawlessly so far with no solar panel. It's been out about 6 weeks and I expect it'll easily last the rest of the season without issue.
The external battery/ammo box setup cost me about $60 plus I bought a lithium battery charger for $30. I'm hoping I don't need a solar panel. I figure the less moving parts, the better.
