Anyone ever been hiking there? Taking the gf out there on Friday and want to know the best trails. Which one has the most sights/closest to the waterfalls? TIA

It's been a long time since I've done it so I don't remember the trails or anything, but if I remember correctly you can look at a map there and see which ones pass by the most waterfalls.

You're talking about the Clark Creek natural area right?

I guess. I'm from Shreveport and want to get away from campus for an afternoon.

There's a link to a map of the trails on this page.

Actually here's the map link

Bring what you need, i.e. water. Only a small country store close if it is still open, been a few years since I've been. If I remember correctly, there are maps at the area that you park at but not positive.

Tunica Hills trail is different than Clark Creek, which is in Mississippi. CC has 5 plus waterfalls, though in this drought season, they may not be flowing, in either area. Clark Creek is much steeper, so do not go after a recent rain.

The place I've been calling tunica hills is clark creek. I don't know if I've ever been to the Tunica Hills trail then.

They are very similar, both part of the same steeply eroded loess deposits, but Tunica Hills is in La, and is a WMA. Supposedly the deer hunting is good, but I'd hate to drag up some of those heights. You know they'd fall in the bottom of the deepest ravine.

Map: LINK

If the OP is coming from Shreveport, Clark Creek might be closer, but either is a long way. Closer to him would be the Backbone Trail or the Caroline Dorman Trail, in Red Dirt, off the Derry exit.

Sorry for the confusion, I'm from Shreveport, but attend LSU. Which one is closer to LSU, do yall think it flowing with this drought?

It's deer season there so be on the look out for hunters. And do not attempt to go during the primitive arms short season. That place gets mega crowded during that time.

Tunica Hills WMA is closer to LSU, by about 30 minutes. Clark Creek is further up Hwy 66, then 969 to Pond, Mississippi. Even with this recent rainfall I doubt either will have waterfalls flowing. The Clark Creek trail is a good bit more challenging. Port Hudson state park has some nice trails too, and is even closer to BR.

Deer hunting is pretty descent there but not easy. I've seen quite a few deer but a lot of the area is thick and very hard to scout. Some of the hills are straight down at 50ft plus. To get to the good spots you have to walk and get down in the bottoms and get to remote spots. Some of the spots I hunted I'm not sure if I would want to kill and drag something out.

Went a couple weeks ago, here is a pic of one of the falls...

Not the best flow, but we've had some rain this past week, so could be better now. Lots of fun wither way.

I go all the time shite is so peaceful. Look up the Pond Store in Woodville, MS. This will take you straight to it. On the trail Stay on gravel until you reach a set of stairs. Right before the stiars there is what looks like a bus stop, they usually have small bats sleeping in there, really good photo op and across the bus stop is a look out, very pretty. when you get to the stairs you will be walking downward. At the bottom go right, it will branch to two separate waterfalls , go down either then back, then the other, then back track to go past the stairs and keep going. This way, it will branch again, but go right there is a water fall to hang your feet off of and eat your sammich for lunch, depending on the time you started. Go back to where it forked and Continue on your journey. It will eventually take you through a spot where you will have to trek over boulders and there is another water fall to kind of wash off in. Continue up the stairs right there and look out over the water fall then up the creek. There is a total of 5-6 water falls, I believe. I've been over 60 times. I absolutely love this place. Just the hike back is killer b/c its almost all uphill. Make sure to bring a couple of zip locks for your phones, dry items, zigzags, food you know, the usual out there. Also, you can rent a cabin right next door to the pond store for only $90/night, sleeps 6-9. Sorry for Germans didn't read, but that's it. If you come across a man in a prison uniform, dont help him. Angola isn't but 10-15 miles from there lol
