I know it’s been discussed 100 times, but was wondering what people recommended in the less than $1000 range.

I’m not standing in water or using them enough to justify Chene or Sitka waders.

Just need some that will last me a few years with minimal use each year (5-10 hunts per year that require waders) and not make me refinance the house to purchase.

Just buy a Redhead pair at Basspro for a couple hundred and replace as needed. Or splurge on a premium brand that will last longer.

I have Simms G4Z's. Awesome waders. I know that Grundens just came out with waders also, and everything they make is top notch like Simms, so I'm sure they are great also.

My first pair of waders were Magellan. They did great on one wade made at the end of wet wading season. I cleaned them, them them air dry, and hung them in my closet to stay in a controlled environment. First time I went wading the next season, they leaked. I said never again.

Magellan is all you need, turn them inside out to dry after every use, buy a tube of wader glue and patches.
The seams in the crotch are their weak spot but they should last 2-3 seasons of light use.
Simms are overkill for as little as you say they’ll be used but they are top notch waders.

Roger’s tough man’s or any of the cheaper breathables. None last more than a few seasons, so go for comfort and value.

I’d go try on a bunch on and go with whatever you are comfortable wearing.

Seriously. If you bought them at Academy, just keep the receipt and box and go return them. I get a new pair every September when they start restocking hunting stuff. Eventually the new ones start leaking by the end of the season but most times they are out of stock after the Christmas rush so I will get an in store credit. If I forget like I said keep the box and the receipt till the next season. Most timed all I need is the box and you really have to do the return inside a calendar year and this cycle is just for 1 purchase and 1 return.

It’s all I wear, have some Mack’s PW Bayou Meto neoprene, have a pair of Drake insulated “boat pants”, but I’ll buy a pair of Banded waist waders if I see them on sale…

Cabelas or Rogers for neoprene. I like the Frog Togg breathables.

Academy changed the policy. I got screwed on this last year as I bought a pair on sale ar end of season. First trip and they leaked like a motha. Went to exchange and nope.

Well you can't do that. You have to buy at the beginning of the season when they are full price. Then if they start leaking, go return them or if you just want a new pair, return at the end of the season. The goal is to get the exact same thing but generally Christmas wipes out the wader selection at Academy and they are already moving the hunting stuff off the shelves anyway by January. So it is iffy at best getting replacements but they have always given me an instore credit. Then I just wait till the next September when they start restocking hunting stuff to use it. That is if I haven't used it on fishing gear.
