In the market for a new shotgun.. Currently shooting a browning gold no complaints other than weight and mine only shoots 3 inch shells.. Sbe 2 and the venci are out the question because they do not shoulder right on me. I know there were problems with the versa max at first but they have seemed to have those taken care of now..

You have about a 1% chance of any out-of-the-box shotgun shouldering on you correctly. That's why you are supposed to adjust them for drop and cast after purchase.

Most new shotguns (if they're worth their time) come with shims that adjust the cast and rise on the gun. They're are extremely easy to adjust.

I'm a Benelii guy. I have two and absolutely love them. Since it sounds like you are not I'd suggest you either look at the Beretta A400 or a Browning A-5

The Browning Maxus and Winchester SX3 are the exact same gun inside. There was a recall on the winchester if I'm not mistaken. They're suppose to be really good guns but I have no experience.

If you were to take a poll on the board however, you would mainly see Berettas and Benellis and some of the new A-5s.

ETA: One thing that I don't understand on the Versa Max is why doesn't Remington publish the weight? Closest thing I can find is 7.75 lbs.

That's really heavy for today's shotguns. I really am not a fan of Remington at all.

My buddy has a maxus and he complains about the trigger resetting. Says it takes a little longer than other autos he has owned to reset.

If you like your Gold, look at the SX3. They SX3 is much lighter than the SX2. I traded up a couple of years ago, and I love mine.

I've heard really good things ab the Sx3, my bro in law seems to like his maxus. Can't go wrong just find whichever one fits you best.

I could not find a recall on the SX3, but the SXP does have a one.

I'm about to buy a SBE in a couple of months. Cousin was trying to convince me on the beretta, but the damn thing feels like a 2x4 to me.

I'll say it again, my dad absolutely hates his maxus, and says it absolutely ruins all credibility that browning has ever had with autoloaders which is a pretty good reputation going back some time. The maxus is that big of a piece of shite. I tend to agree with him. I shot his at a dove shoot last year because he said it always felt "slow" and I wanted to see what that meant. It does feel "slow", the cycling feels slow, the trigger reset is slow, the recoil even feels slow. Now before you say that slow recoil is a good thing, it's not in this particular case. You can almost feel the bolt starting to cycle and then you get hit with the recoil. It's really odd to me.

So to answer your question, I would get neither aforementioned shotguns that you said. I would get an SBEII and know that you have the best shotgun ever made.

the beretta is a great gun..... but the very reason mentioned above is why is shoot the SBE2. Have a kicks choke tube on it and it lays a nice consistent pattern. the gun doesn't kick really and if you are worried about cycling.... that sum bitch is as quick as it gets. your second shot with it is really good as well, doesn't throw you off target like other guns can.

Just shoulder em all. What feels right for you may be completely different from the next guy. The all should be reliable in the price range you're looking for. Btw, SBE2 shouldered the best for me. Good luck!

Kingranch described it better than I could. My buddy said almost exactly the same thing.

Do you want gas or inertia? That's what you have to decide.
