I'm still casting a few H20 mettles and man, after 5 or so seasons, they are still casting fine. I haven't bought one in a few years but not sure if they're still good. Best $50 I ever spent. I also have a 13, abu garcia and a couple others. I put my most used bait (Ginger Avenger inline spinner) on my 13 because it's my favorite reel.

I have a fishing 13 A that I use to throw spinner bait and chatter bait for reds. Good drag.

Whatever man.

When shimano and Daiwa buy reels from Doyo and put a shimano or Daiwa sticker on it, that’s the exact same thing Lews and Abu are doing.

I stand by everything I’ve said.

If they do, then yes, yes it is. The difference is, it would be some instead of all. Also, that factory in Malaysia? That's a Shimano factory, not Doyo or Banax.

What Shimano and/or Daiwa are Doyo or Banax? None of mine are.

They do. And I already gave an example. I found out about it when I had someone fishing with me with a Daiwa CA 80 and I looked at it and immediately recognized the Doyo frame and braking system. I did some research on Tackle Tour forums and found there’s entire lines of lower tiered Daiwa reels that are Doyo made.

Which is why I said you have to discuss the merits of reel brands on a reel by reel basis.

And that Malaysia plant, while owned by Shimano, has produced some of the worst duds to ever carry the Shimano name. It also ‘borrows’ designs strikingly similar to what other manufacturers offer. I’ve owned them.

If you spend time on tackle tour forums, you will see a lot of arguments to chase the ‘Made in Japan’ sticker.

I’m just a junkie so I buy/sell/trade them all. While I do like the JDM offerings, I have a lot of Korean reels with no complaints.

Mine have been fantastic and look nothing like any other reel.

They have a new version out that seems really cool in the store. I may have a need as one of my mettles finally gave up on its anti-reverse bearing.

I believe it. Which is why I said the merits need to be discussed on a reel by reel basis.

I’m the owner of Shimano’s, Daiwas, Lews, Garcia’s, and pfluegers. I care not the name on the reel. They’re all great and they all suck.

The new Daiwa Zillion 1000 G. It’s $350. You think that’s made in Japan? Nope. Thailand.

USDM version is made in Thailand, JDM is made in Japan. Reels are exactly the same besides country of origin and gear material, US has brass gears and Japan has aluminum gears.

Best purchase I’ve made in awhile was getting a Luvias 2500 a couple of years ago from Digitaka before they started selling them here. I think I paid $230 and it’s my favourite spinner right now. I have no idea where it was made, though.

I have both USDM and JDM new Zillions.

The JDM version is absolutely the smoothest bait caster I've ever felt. The USDM is not.

I hooked both of them up to accelerometers and got a DC motor that could reel at 2.5 Hz while both reels were softly constrained the same way.

The JDM Zillion vibrational frequencies and magnitudes looked like this:

The USDM Zillion looked like this.

The USDM is also a half ounce heavier.

I haven't measured it yet, but the USDM SV boost spool also feels more braked than the JDM version at lower spool speeds.

And finally, my USDM model is about to be listed for sale on BBC. My JDMs are not.

Where do you buy your JDMs and which Zillion is it?

2.5 Hz what? RPM? At the spool or handle?

I bought 3 JDM versions. Two from Asian Portal Fishing and a third from Japan Tackle (Jun Sonoda is great to deal with btw). I've also ordered from Japan Lure Shop and Digitaka. I have a lot of Shimano Metanium JDMs too.

The zillion model is the new Daiwa 21 Zillion SV TW 1000. Looks like AP is out of stock but this is it: LINK

2.5 rotations of the handle per second. basically just a dumb DC motor connected to the handle with a Wit Motion 3-axis bluetooth accelerometer attached to the top of the frames.

Threw one a bit Saturday. The sound was very different. Performed great especially considering I was throwing a small beetle spin.

Is there a chart somewhere that shows the JDM equivalent for US reels? I know sometimes they have the same name but frequently they don't.
