What can be used to kill algae in a 14 acre pond?

Have a pond behind our house that we own but has a lot of algae. What to use to get rid of but not hurt fish, turtles and alligators.

How deep is it? 14 acres is a good size to have algae issues.

I’ve used copper sulfate but read instructions carefully.

have you tried natural remedies like carp that eat grass and algae?
im not sure if it would be a bad idea, but some aquarium fish like algae eaters dont eat grass, if thats a concern, so that could be an option

Was hoping there was a chemical that would be safe to use. I say it’s 14 acres but it’s in the shape of a horse shoe. The whole area is 14 acres but the pond may be 7 to 10 acres total. It’s surrounded by trees is about 15 feet deep in its deepest part.

Pics?
As suggested previously, copper sulfate can be effective but is toxic to crawfish and invertebrates in high ppm's (not sure about fish)

well 15 ft is shallow so light still reaches all depths and that is a big part of the problem for you.
i think some sort of algae eating fish is your only permanent and safest solution not to harm the fish in it.
constant chemical treatments is expensive and you are just asking for mistakes to happen and kill off all or most of your fish.
a pond needs to be self regulating and self sustaining as far as its health so look into natural control rather then chemical control of it.
you may also want to look into some form of aeration system to help maintain good healthy oxygen levels so the algae doesnt cause a die off from lack of oxygen

Copper Sulfate and a boat motor prop. Make damn sure to read the instruction on how to dose because if you overdose, bye bye fish. I currently feed it at the majority of my water plants this time of year to kill the algae coming in. We are feeding around 8-10pm and it’s doing it’s job but I’m not trying to keep any fish alive either.
One thing to keep in mind is that when you kill all that algae, it will go to the bottom, rot and produce food for the next bloom. Once you kill it, keep an eye on things and do a maintenance dose until water temps start dropping.

Diuron or copper sulfate crystals. 2-3 50 lb bags of copper sulfate should do it
Dissolve it in a container of water then pour it in the pond. Don’t dump the crystals into the pond they don’t dissolve easily you need to mix it first.

In a 10 acre catfish pond at 5 feet deep it doesn’t get toxic to fish until about 3-400 lbs. I use it to kill trematodes. to knock back the algae 150lbs should do it.
5-7.5 gallons of diuron sprayed around the edge will also do it but you may need an applicators license to buy it or get someone who has one to buy it for you

That would be a bad idea. Do not put aquarium 'algae eating' fish in your pond. Dunno what fish you are even referring to but I am assuming plecos. Theyre sold as algae eaters but they dont do that at all.
They also get massive.

Great info. Does Diuron have similar toxic properties in high concentrations? I've spot sprayed sparingly with dissolved copper sulfate diluted, but very cautiously since my ponds only average 18"-21" deep

thats why i said i wasnt sure, i know they do good keeping aquariums clean from algae.
but my main point is he needs a natural fish that eats algae to maintain the pond without harsh chemicals

they dont. theyre sold as algae eaters to people that dont know any better then the fish gets huge and they dump it in a public waterway or kill it

1a. Aeration
1b. Clean the muck out of the pond
2. Add desirable vegetation
3. block the sun. A shade is probably cost prohibitive and unfortunately most shade blockers you add to the water are bright blue. I have seen green, but green might filter too much light.
I wouldn't use copper sulphate or copper anything. It is toxic to fish even if it doesn't kill them, it will wipe out your crustaceans. It is very effective in killing plants though.
I'd personally "Farm" part of the pond with lots of aquatic plants to act as a breeding ground and nursery for fish and crawfish and only focus on keeping part of the pond clear. Then I would add aeration via windmill pond pumps.

Diuron won’t hurt the fish. If you use too much you can kill the oxygen levels and that can cause a problem. I’d suggest applying it in increments, not at once. Do half a gallon every other day for algae management. It also kills the shite out of moss

I found a video that shows duck seed carp contain it. 10 per acre they use. They are sterile so don’t reproduce.

Don’t put carp in your pond. I did this in my pond 12 years ago, they cleaned the pond of all grass and I haven’t caught a bass over 2lbs since. I’ve removed all carp and some grass is coming back and fishing is better. Also the carp wouldn’t eat the algae in my pond

I have a 14 acre and use pond dye with algaecide. Get 10-12 bottles.
