What is the best “cheap” Red Dot sight?

About to pull the trigger on a couple of ARs and my son wants a simple red dot sight. Any suggestions on what to avoid or recommendations on a good one?

Sig Sauer Romeo - around $80 on Amazon
Vortex Crossfire is good too, but over $100
Anything cheaper is going to move every few magazines.

I would spend the extra $20 and get the holosun. it has 50K hour battery life and shake awake. It's not an aimpoint but way better than any other optic in your price range.

I don't know, but it says "Sig Sauer Store" and has high reviews.

I’ve got a couple of Northtac Ronin P10’s that are pretty darn good for the price. The one piece P11 might be better suited for an AR.
Mine are on a Ruger American Ranch and a turkey gun. Neither lose zero.

(Code 3720 will get another 20% off).
3 of 7 Project did a good review of it on youtube.
Edit to add…Sig Romeo5 is on my AR. I trust it with my life.

Go with a Vortex. Their warranty and customer service is top notch if you buy their top of the line or cheapest line.

This ^ re: Holosun. Their entire lineup is awesome. Old adage is to spend more or same $ on scope/sight as the weapon, but the Holosun enables one to get a solid, dependable sight for a great value.

Love mine. Reasonably priced, shake awake feature, and stays on sight.

Just some cheap DTS Sport. We don’t shoot much - just want to get some before we can’t.

The shake awake on the Holosun is legit. I have alot of rifles with various makes of electronic sights and Holosun 510 sits on top of my bedroom rifle and one of my truck rifles…with the constant vibrations being in a vehicle, the shake awake is activated more often, but even at 6 month intervals when I change batteries out, the sight is still bright and functional.
I also have Holosuns on several of my handguns and other than a Trijicon SRO, they’re way better than anything else I’ve tried.

For the money the Holosun series are hard to beat. Also, Sig has a simple one called MSR which can be found on sale for $70-80 and works well. It does not have shake awake but a dial you turn on and off as needed but still has like 20K hours of run time.

I would stay away from the MSR. I had one that dies in 6 months. Sig replaced it under warranty and the replacement lasted 7 months. I didn't even bother to get another one. I had it on a .22 SW M&P Ar22. Sat in the safe except for 3 outings to shoot. total POS optic.
You usually get what you pay for. I will add holosun to that exception. I have 6 Holosun optics. I have 2 on carry guns and normally wouldn't trust a "budget" optic on a carry gun but they 507\EPS line is fantastic and extremely durable.
