I am beginning to look into building a form 1 suppressor from a solvent trap, but there are eleventy billion options out there. Have any of you built one, and can you recommend a good kit? Also, can you use the same can with different end caps for different calibers? I'd like to be able to use it on my 5.56, 300blk and soon to acquire 458 socom.

FWIW, I recently talked to an ATF Industry Ops guy about this and he told me that the "Form 1 Solvent Traps" are very much on ATF's radar right now.
The most recent guidance he had, which he shared with me, was that:
"These are a hot topic of discussion right now. It really depends on where you order it from. Stay away from any of them coming out of China because FATD has determined many of them to be illegal. The one's sold in the US seem to be legal."
The China issue seems to be based on importation and not configuration rules FWIW. I emailed the company that made the one I was looking at online and the return email (literally) came back in Chinese characters. LoL. I decided not to buy that one.

Can you explain what that is to me like I'm an idiot?

Basically it’s a silencer but the baffles have not been drilled.

you basically purchase machined parts "solvent trap or oil filter", perform some modifications, and thread them onto your host firearm, creating a silencer

Order your solvent trap. Submit your efile form 1. Pay for your stamp. Wait for approval. Drill holes in your solvent trap. You’ll have to have the suppressor engraved with your serial.
It is currently the quickest way to a suppressor.
I would stay away from any aluminum tube solvent traps for a rifle. Go stainless or titanium.

I used this guy before. Easy to deal with and great products.
Diversified machine
Only issue I had was finding a shop to engrave the titanium.
