I am hunting mainly in rice fields so there may be some long range shooting....ive seen the duck commander videos and they are killing ducks way high...does anyone know what they use or one similar TIA

I hunt rice fields and timber in Clarendon, Ar right outside of Stuttgart. In the fields I use an extended range patternmaster (full or x-full equivalent) since over the past few years the ducks seem to fly higher and higher. I also like it because I can throw in a couple of 3 1/2" and reach out to the geese.
In the timber I use the factory Beretta modified since 99% of my shots are eye level birds just a few yards away.

ok thats mainly what ill hunt is the rice fields and flooded timber....and yea im going to use 3 1/2" for both ducks and geese...just want to be able and reach out and touch them...ive got a 1187 magnum so the extended range is better than the long range?

According to PM website, the difference in Extended and Long Range, is that the Extended Range has a longer port extension to "maximize" the shot of 3 1/2" shells. I don't know how much truth that holds, but it has not let me down, aside from missing a few mid/close range shots due to extremely tight pattern and occasional subpar shooting!

The duck commanders use kicks vortex chokes and they are amazing ive been using one for 2 seasons now.

Awesome! I did not know that Haydel's was making choke tubes now. I will definately try one out this season.

I have had mine for a few years now. I think they are cheaper than Pattern Masters and work well for me.

I use a full in lakes & mod in the woods.

Where is uncle si and sillus (spelling) Robinson when you need them?

I have a patternmaster. It makes nice even tight patterns. Was it worth the money I spent on it? For strictly duck hunting, no frickin way. I got it for buckshot which it handles very well.

You have to be a really good shot to shoot birds a long way away with a full or x full choke. If you really want to shoot birds from 40 years, you need better amnunition. Buy some heavy shot or at least heavy metal.
The most versatile "tight" choke for waterfowl hunting is probably improved modified.

I assume the you all know that with steel, it patterns one "choke" tighter than lead.
Example, an IC will pattern like modified; modified patterns like full.
Or have I been given bad info over the years? I've never tested this.
