Anywhere along I-49 that sells block ice between Lafayette and Shreveport? Looking to use it to ice down deer but also last the whole weekend

Some of those old country stores up there used to give you a free block of ice with a case of beer.
Whitehall Mall outside of Jena being my favorite.

Just freeze water balloons if it's that big of a deal you can put them in a bowl so they don't pop

I use a clean 5 gal bucket. Fill slightly over half full with water and place in freezer. Just be sure bucket has room to expand, dont pack frozen packages around it or your bucket will bust open.

Yep i remember those days, i used to have a small gas station i would still get some from in Goudeau. But they closed down a few years ago. I do use 2 liter bottles and freeze them, but running out of freezer space to make more . Maybe it’s time for a new freezer

I’ve been contemplating getting a new used freezer just for making ice

Buy a silicone bread mold or an ice tray and you can make your own block Ice. I freeze water in an ice cube storage tray. Store it in the deep freeze. Came in clutch during hurricane

not sure where you are in Lafayette.....it's not on the I-49 corridor, but Lagneaux's Country Store on Fieldspan has it (near Ridge elementary and Judice middle school). It's inside in the freezer and not outside with the regular bags of cubed ice.
