Looking to get a Weatherby Mark V in one of these three for Elk and Black Bear and just for fun. Will put a Swarovski 3-15 on it. And yes, you can request Weatherby to send you one of these without a muzzle brake.
Already have 300 Weatherby (my favorite), 300 RUM , 338 Lapua, 375 H&H and 375 RUM

I had a 30-378 and still have a couple 300 wbys.
I load all my own, and I just don't see enough gained in the 30-378 over thr tried and true .300 wby for all the extra powder being burned. Not mention the relatively short brass life of some really expensive brass. Don't remeber my exact load off hand, but think I was running smoothing like 100 to 120 grns of 50BMG powder pushing 180 accubonds. I'd be more intrigued in the .338-378 then thr .30 cal.

Have to read up on the 300PRC

I've taken 2 elk (one at 473 yds) with my WBY 300 and wouldn't hesitate to use it on a black bear.

All three are too much gun for black bear IMHO. The last two are excessive for elk. So if forced to choose I’m going 30-378.
To that end; given what you already have I’m not sure what void it really fills.
If looking to spend on a new Weatherby; they just announced they’ll be chambering in the 224 Weatherby again this year. A classic that will prove effective on varmints and even whitetail in the right hands.

I remember you telling me along time back you were thinking of building one. That is awesome, what motor you putting in it? 454, 502! Go big or go home!

Noted.
The 338-378 is a monster! What was the max velocity you achieved with the 30-378 with 180s?
If I get the 378, I want to push 350s as close to 3000 as possible.

I don’t really need any of them, I’ve just kind of fallen in love with Weatherby stuff. Although 300 Weatherby has been a favorite of mine and of some of the most experienced hunters you’ll ever meet. It’s superb for just about anything in North America besides Coastal Brown Bear and Grizzly.

I would say I want the 30-378 and 338-378 for hunting but also because they’re very powerful rounds.
Same reason I want the 378, but I’ve heard it’s recoil (without a brake) described to me as “violent, fast” and it will bust your shoulder while striking your cheek. According to a few elephant hunters I know, 378 surpasses even the mighty 460 Weatherby in recoil (if comparing them out of Mark V rifles of the same weight and without a muzzle brake).

Family member of mine has one!
Here’s a round I find interesting:
7.82 Warbird, of the Lazzeroni cartridge series. Very popular from 1994 until the early 2000s.
Anyone ever owned a Lazzeroni rifle?

Mine were running through the crono at 3200 with the 30-378 shooting 180 accunbonds over 114grs of 50bmg
Getting 3000fps shooting 180s out of my .300 Wby with about 20 to 25 less grns of powder. I've never looked at the .338-378 load data but I'd bet it's much more efficient. The 30-378 is just too over-bored

Oh wow! And 180s were the heaviest you went with?
Have you ever loaded or heard of the 7.82 Warbird?

I remember reading about them back in the '90s. Their velocities across the board were amazing.
Are they still around?

You left off possibly the best answer. 340 WBY

Why not get this one? You could make some super fun trail boss loads. I know shooting trail boss out of a .375 is hilariously fun.
I'm in agreement that .340 is a great choice but if you're going for horsepower, .378 is where it's at.
I certainly have no interest in shooting any of them.

180s were thr heaviest I tried, I had a ton of them on hand and had always liked the terminal performance. The 30-378 probably shines when you get into the 200gr and heavier, but i never tried them. I ended up selling they gun and replaced it with a stainless ruger no 1 in 35 Whelen which had become my goto gun and caliber for everything.
I've heard of the 7.82, I've never loaded for one.
I think you mentioned having a 375h&h, i don't think any of the big wby calibers will do anything better than what the 375 already does, and I'm a big wby fan.
