Yea the extra heavy arrow fad is starting to pass.

I swapped a couple years ago to an arrow with total weight of 490-500 gr. with 12% FOC. I blew through a shoulder blade on a deer at 9 yards and the arrow stuck in the ground 8”

Funny you posted that. I have the XOP vanish but have been looking to get the millennium M7. The XOP platform is too long for my liking.

I'm 98% public land and most of that is archery. Have been a saddle guy for the last 2-3 seasons.

Same here but I’ve got to find a new place to hunt. I’ve had zero success the last three seasons.

I’m in the ponchatoula area and I hunt a little WMA north of here that, on paper, should be perfect. Lots of tracks, lots of signs, see animals on camera at night, but nothing on hunts. There is a lot of traffic too which doesn’t help. Going to try Sandy Hollow this year, but I’ve heard it’s a mixed bag as far as deer are concerned

Putting together a new tripod setup. I’m going to go with the rrs anvil-30 head. The tripod itself will be an innorel rt90c. I’m not sure why I never explored tripods as an option, as soon as I saw it I instantly thought of myself as a dumbass. Buying and installing arca rails for two rifles next month. Testing in September and October via coyote/hogs.

For the OP, if you only hunt three days per year, all of that gear won’t make much difference. Hunting and fishing is about time in the field and/or really good places to go.

Salmon, why are you field dressing a deer before packing out? Go with the gutless method.

Because it’s still hard as hell to drag a gutted deer 100’s of yards by yourself

Yeah, he answered the question. When I pack one out, I take the shoulders, bone out the hind quarters, and pull the back straps. I leave the guts inside the rib cage.

Agree, but last year was definitely an exception. Life just got in the way. Doesn't matter if it was only 3 days anyhow, I'm a buy once cry once type.

I slice through the sternum and make a lil hatch with the ribs to get the heart out.

How do you like it? My only gripe with my mystery ranch is that it's loud as all hell. I use a Trophyline Platow if I don't mind the walk out to grab the meat pack.

Haven't gotten it yet. I'm only coming out once, got the get it all in one shot. I have two Horn Hunters, think I'll be selling one or both.

I hear ya. I find if I get too cocky and assume I'm killing a deer it doesn't happen. When I walk in not ready to pack out I usually kill one.

ETA: first hunt I made last year was early October. Didn't think I there was a good chance of killing so had the light pack. Hadn't done any scouting. I rode my bike two miles and walked another mile to check a tree. Shot a small hog on my way in. Gutted it and strapped it to my Platow. One of the trees I was going to look at was torn up. 7 or 8 piles of fresh shite and a lot of older shite. Got in a tree and shot a doe about an hour later. Had to go 3 miles out to the truck to get my pack. I'm convinced that I wouldn't have killed anything if I'd went in with the meat pack.

Do you strap your bow to the bag? I'm looking at getting a backpack to throw my bow in for long hikes.
