Mullets are built to be throwed baw!

They reach aerodynamic peak the last full weekend of April on the Gulf Coast!

I used to commercial fish them back in the day and there was a lot of Florida guys who came over to louisiana and fished them and even some that ended up moving to La and staying.
They all ate them but would only eat ones caught in deeper water in Breton sound at certain times of the year they claimed that fish from the river or bays had a muddy taste. They swore that the white sand mullets in Florida was a delicacy.

When the trout limit drops to 5, I’m sure the guides will brag about their mullet catch

When snapper dropped, amberjack became a prize

People are stupid.

Environment affects their flavor.

Mullet from sandy bottom estuaries are cleaner tasting than mullet from muddy bottom estuaries.

There's way too many better fish around to eat, but the below is true.

One reason. Because we can catch plenty of better fish.

While that may be true, I’ve had it many times east of the river and enjoyed it. The ones we’ve caught around grand isle and further inland were so bad I think old man threw pan in the water. Very different tasting based on location of harvest. For a while I thought they were different species.

Channel mullet (aka whiting) are good eating

I had quite a few guests from points east come to duck camp and try and make them. Never worked, they’d end up in crab traps or a jug line for catfish.

Culture. We use them for bait to catch fish that we grew up eating.

I’d like to try some. Yours looks delicious. Beach jerky.

The Louisiana side of my family makes fun of the side in FL that love mullet. The mud vs sand now makes sense to me.
