Xpress bay boats-worth the $$$$

Been looking hard at buying one of the 20+' xpress bay boats. What's your thoughts?

I just sold mine. I loved the boat just never got to use it like planned. I got 2k less than I paid for it new.

It appears that they certainly hold their value.

I had the 2016 H22B with the F150 Yamaha.

I had a 20' h bay and used it for four years and sold it for what I paid for it. They hold their value for sure.
Are they worth the money? That depends on what you want. A 20' is around 30k now with extras. My buddy paid 38k for. 22' I can't justify that kinda money on a big name mass produced aluminum boat. If you want one go custom.
For the money they are getting for these you can get a nice fiberglass boat for sure.
I'd never buy one again. Storage sucks and wasnt dry at all, lacks a Lean post ice chest which had a livewell instead. AND it came with a wet and rough ride. The 22' rides way better then the 20' though.

I paid 30450 in March 2016 at Boats Unlimited in BR. I sold it for 28500 2 weeks ago.

Xpress boat hold their value. I paid $13K for an X70. Fished hard out of it for 8 years. Sold it for $10K.

No doubt, it's one thing to drop 20k on a aluminum boat. Get into the 30's and there are a ton of options across the board. Just seems like the right boat for inshore saltwater as well as freshwater. Afraid I won't be able to access the areas down South that I want to fish with a fiberglass hull.

What areas are you trying to get to?
I had an xpress h20b for 3 years and sold it for a 22' fiberglass bay boat. Sold it for 3k less than I bought it for. Zero haggling. Guy thought he had a deal.
Whodat summed it up. Also you will need a jackplate and a new prop for the boat to run right. They don't come set up right espically with a generic powertec prop.

While this may be true, this isn't why you buy a boat.

quote:Resale value isn't a factor in purchasing a boat to you? It's huge to me. I bought an xpress bass boat for 14 in 09 and sold it for 10 in 17. I just wanted something new. The high resale value helped me get a better boat.

Understood, was only pointing out that their depreciation doesn't seem nearly as high as other manufactures.

Never crosses my mind but I don't replace things every 2 or 3 years.

And if you're trying to "inch" your way up the boat chain, then you may be doing it right.
BTW I wasn't trying to be a dick.

We have a 2000 model X21B with a 4 stroke 200 that we have been running since 2004. We fish the marsh in Venice, freshwater (Lakes and the basin) and nearshore rigs in venice (up to 12 miles) with it. Obviously, you are only rig fishing in 2' seas at most. We also duck hunt out of it. Have beat it to hell and back with no problems other than normal wear and tear. The compartments will get wet if you spray them with a pressure washer or hose. Rain and normal spray does not get them wet, at least not ours. Buddy just got an '05 model of the same boat and have fished in it a few times. Performance is the same as ours.
The older models will get you wet as passengers in windy rough conditions. Newer models have supposedly solved that problem but have no experience there. We load it down since we have a camp downriver. Have always had plenty of room for 3-4 days worth of crap for 4-5 people. Use it to pull the go-devil boat down also at beginning and end of season. Bottom line is we abuse it and it has always performed. Even at 17 years old, it still performs as needed.
I wouldn't pay $33k for a new one, but I'm cheap. Paid $18k for ours in 2004. We have definitely gotten that value and plenty more out of it.

quote:I set budget on how much I felt like I should spend and I purchased a boat. I thought I would get 6 for my boat but I got 10. That was the difference between an Xpress X18 and X19. So I got a bigger boat, bigger motor (115 to a 200) and power poles.
And if you're trying to "inch" your way up the boat chain, then you may be doing it right.
Maybe you should consider resale values when making a purchase. Makes the "inching up" very convenient.

Like I said this seems like the right approach for you.....for me, I get what I want the first time and I'm good to go. I don't have the biggest bass boat but I have the one I want; got it in '12 new. I have no ambition to trade up or get a new one.....unless of course this one sinks then all bets are off.

Some great points here. I think I'm sold on the xpress bay boat with larger engine and power pole(s). Next step is trying to find one without having to donate a testicle.
