Mine caught on fire yesterday and is now crispy.

It was a Dixie Chopper Silver Eagle 2760. They do not make that model anymore so I'm starting from scratch.

What are you baws riding?

I'm 14 years in on a Gravely ZTR 42.

Kawasaki smokes a little.

How'd you catch fire?

I have a box store john deere that's been great considering it's price point. ~ 200 hours on it and I had to chance the vacuum line for the fuel pump so far.

But that's not what I'm here to talk about. Let's talk about your old one catching on fire.

Hustler Lazer Z witn Kawasaki 1000. Runs about 15-17mph. I can cut 5 acres in an hour and 10 minutes

Electrical issue? I've also heard of grass/leaves not ever being cleaned from the engine compartment area sparking up.

If youre looking for a 60+" mower that will cut and buiilt like a tank, i think the most overbuilt is the Bad Boy Renegade.

If youre wanting a 60+" that has the best cuts quality, then it's the SCAG Velocity Plus deck or the John Deere 7 Iron deck.

Pretty much everything else is about equal. Same engine/hydrogen combinations and all of that.

And dealer support means jack shite to me. My mowers never see a dealer or a repair shop again once I buy them. They go straight to the scrap yard because I'll work on them myself and expect that I can keep one going for 20 years.

For residential zero turn 42" deck, all the makes are in similar price range. I found bad boy had the most bang for buck. Have been happy for mine for 3 years now. Have the 22 HP Kohler twin engine.

I think the solenoid shorted and ignighted the grass that inevitably gathers in the engine compartment. By the time I could go grab an extinguisher and get back it had burned a hole in one of the hyd lines. It was on after that.

Thankfully I got it out before it melted through the fuel tank. 5 gal of rec gas doesn't ignite peacefully. Scared the shite out of me.

I also cut about 5 acres so I'm looking for something commercial grade.

Back when I was cutting yards (15 years ago), i had a lot of different brands. Here is my opinion, but things could have changed since that was awhile ago:

Exmark: best cut, very durable, least fun to drive as mine is a little jerky and not so fluid

Scag: absolutely bulletproof, good cut, but heavy, as mine would rut up lawns

Hustler: most fun to drive, good cut, maybe not as durable as the other 2 brands

If i had to start a lawn service, i would run exmark because its dependable and IMO the best all around machine. If you test drive a Hustler, you may end up buying one (they drive that good). All 3 of these brands i mentioned are excellent.

Figured it had to do with the solenoid. They suck and if you stay on that key it will melt the wire quick.

I cut about 3 acres and instead of a ZTR I bought a Case IH DX25E with a mid mount mower and a (quick attach) front end loader. Mows a little slower but way more versatile for little jobs other than mowing. The 4ft bucket on the front holds a little more than a wheel barrow but much easier on the back.

Not mine but a generic pic from the web identical
