Artemis keeps having setbacks. Why not use proven 1960's technology.

Original Schedule: Initially planned for November 2024, then delayed to September 2025. Anticipated further delays to April 2026 under current consideration.

Reasons for Delays:

Orion Heat Shield: During Artemis I, the heat shield’s Avcoat material eroded more than expected due to gas buildup during the “skip entry” reentry trajectory. NASA has identified the root cause and plans to modify the reentry profile for Artemis II rather than replace the heat shield, but additional testing is needed.

Life Support System: Issues with Orion’s environmental control and life support system, including a circuitry component for air ventilation and temperature control, require further troubleshooting.

Battery Issues: Problems with Orion’s batteries were discovered during testing, necessitating additional time to resolve.

Why did NASA shred all that state of the art 1960s technology?

We will never make it on time.

NASA didn't have delays for subpar components/craftsmanship/design?

It's just an appliance... and like all appliances, 1000x worse than the 60's ones.

If we decided to 'pause' the program would that be such a bad thing?

There are no reports that I have seen indicating problems with the propulsion system. They have that down. As I've noted, the issues have been with the heat shield, life support air ventilation system and batteries.

Technically, they say they "lost it".

If that's so, AI and current computer power X 1000000000000000 ought to be able to replicate it and advance it exponentially, right?

That’s cute you still believe we went to the moon.

Do you still believe in the easter bunny too?

According to Wikipedia The Artemis program Cost US$93+ billion (2012–2025), $53 billion in 2021–2025[1]

Crazy amount of money.

i mean, can't we just get some welding baws to connect some iron and steel together, pop a few rivets and slap a NASA logo on the side & point it at the moon?

isn't that what we did in the 60s with some arithmetic help from the black ladies janitorial pool?

FLAWLESS moon landings over and over. all this physics 'n shite getting in the way now.

make 1960s welding great again!

So much of that was hand machined and we don’t have the skilled people anymore.

You got it all backwards. It's the fact they used a lot of leftovers to do a patchwork rocket. Dumped good engineering for better accountants.

Artemis is not a space craft that is obsolete, it is a jobs program.
