Its not so much against china as it is against letting these ancillary countries act as passthroughs for china garbage being sent to the US.
Japan doesn’t HAVE to be explicitly against China as long as they aren’t helping them circumvent whatever trade barriers we end up putting on them. Japan can lose its arse, no problem no care.

It is smart to de escalate when you can with your neighbors.

This is all part of the plan, right?

This is why Bessent's plan to slow roll the trade war into a 2-3 year negotiation period will never work. We have only 1 option to stop China from becoming the dominant superpower by 2035 and that is to have drastic changes in manufacturing and trade right now. That is going to bring some pain in the stock market short term but is preferential to allowing the current situation to continue which guarantees China will be the dominant superpower by 2035

Japan is doing what Japan needs to do. I don't see why anyone would be up in arms about any new negotiations between nations. As I've said, alliances have been ripped up and this the new reality. China is now aggressively pursuing new markets as they should. Europe is doing the same as is everyone else. Freaking Indonesia and China are now closer than they were just last week. We went from alliances (take the good and the bad with them) to being driven by transactions. This is exactly what was asked for and now people are complaining about it. Why?

But this board said we had China boxed in and isolated.

Can you blame them? China is their neighbor.
That’s like Japan trying to restrict us from trading with Mexico.

John, we would've been far better served by starting negotiations with other nations individually before going all in with tariffs the way we did. While that was happening we should've been making the business environment here far more friendly to entice manufacturers to come back here. Once we had that infrastructure here we could've gone on the attack. But we did it backwards. Factories will not just pop up overnight to make items that China currently does for us or other nations for that matter. It takes years and millions upon millions of dollars, training, supply chains, tooling...

Oh no! Anonymous sources say we're doomed. Well, it was a good run.

"who asked not to be identified" & Bloomberg
What a hell of a slant they put on reality.
