Bonaroo experience: Three Six Mafia vs blue hair crowd

So attended one day of Bonaroo (free tix). Show up and some corporate girl band is “playing” the equivalence to contemporary Christian music, but with sexual and even satanic themes. It was super cheesy and choreographed, but was attempting to be edgy with taboo subject matter. They even not so subtly plugged bud light beer several times.
The crowd was mixed but was pretty heavy with young feminists walking around without bras on and dudes that have definitely tasted the peen. They were eating it up.
Girl power group wraps up and Three Six enter the stage. I grew up to “arse and Tittays”, but wasn’t fully aware of their catalog. Homeboys enter the stage calling for a mosh pit to the callousless crowd. EVERY song they sang had at minimum “bitch”, “suck my dick”, “ho”, and of course…the n-word.
Talk about a clash of culture??. I almost felt bad for the rappers because the crowds wasn’t feeling it. No singing. Very little dancing. They tried every way to hype the crowd. From “where the bitches at?” to “this next one is a big hit”. You could feel their frustration. One of the members was wearing a Hannibal lecter mask. He started saying “We got some hicks here tonight. Some mother frickin hicks.”
The next to the last song said the n-word repeatedly in the chorus. No one in the crowd was singing along even though the group had been trying all night to get them involved. The masked rapper shouted midsong “It’s okay white people. You can say it tonight!” I had to cover my mouth I was laughing so hard. I’m not going to lie…it was very entertaining??.
So amazing how much the culture of the youth has shifted in 20 years.

Words that will never pass my lips
I've probably attended my last festival
Not interested in the acts being brought in, or the crowds they attract.

I hate music festivals. It’s usually a bunch of drunks whose last reason for being there is anyone on stage.

Indeed. Music festivals are a special form of hell. These days it’s for fat sweaty bro country type guys and instawhores who don’t even know a band is playing.

Do you expect us to believe that no one was hype for 3-6?

I have found that the crowds at music festivals vary WIDELY depending on the festival. Jazz Fest crowds tend to be super old, low energy, and either really drunk or just a little high on weed. Voodoo crowds were much younger, wilder, and with a lot of folks on hard drugs. Hangout Fest crowds were filled with angry drunks who just wanted to fight.
I went to Riot Fest up in Chicago last year and the crowds were great. Everyone was chill and super polite despite most of the crowd being folks in their 20’s or early 30’s.
I think the bands at the festival, the location, and the fanbases in attendance really make the crowd, and not all festival crowds are the same.

Back in my day you would regularly hear 50,000 white people yelling the n word together and everything was fine. Kids today are just soft

Bonnaroo is outside of Manchester Tennessee. It’s about 50 miles NE of Huntsville

All those "white folks" were probably wondering if Three Six Mafia had any idea that white liberals created and celebrated Juneteenth for their benefit.

That’ sucks and is very different than I remember. But it’s been at least 10 years. Hangout was fun before MTV got involved.
