Can price hikes change consumerism?

I know this may be a long shot, but hypothetically, if a lot of prices were to go up due to tariffs and people decide they won’t buy that trinket or cheap thing for a while, can that change the consumerism behaviors of a significant portion of this country?
If we can change those behaviors, that would go a long way in weakening china just simply from a numbers/demand game.
Wishful thinking I know

I did consult the 8 ball and I got all of these answers from it. What do you think I’m doing here?!

Stop trying to justify high prices of everything

Sure. Take Karen Suburban Mom. Bored with hubby, looking for a spark, she discovers TEMU. And she falls in love with it. Visits TEMU everyday. What does TEMU offer? Cheap junk. A sugar rush for buyers Maybe if those cheap avocado sealers to keep it green cost $5 instead of $0.89, Karen might stop buying garbage crap that clutters her life. This would be a good thing.

It’s not a justification. I explicitly said, “hypothetically.”
It’s the after effect of potential high prices and how that could “hypothetically” change one of the main issues with Chine and that is American consumerism.
Just a thought exercise and really not even a political one to be honest.

temporarily more than long term, would expect humans to revert on things like this.

That’s the main question here. How long is the temporary effect?
How long would something like this take to grab hold of society and affect change in behavior.
I think a good solid 60 days of high high prices of a bunch of bullshite junk would help people see what they don’t need.
But I am an optimist and am probably wrong.

Yes
To the degree that you can afford the cost, any increase will impact you
Super wealthy won’t matter
Wealthy might not matter
Poor will be hit hardest

I believe it will. I have already changed my purchasing habits. I tend to buy stuff that is of higher quality that won't have to be replaced as much. I try not buy junk that I don't really need or add actual value to my life. I also buy generic over named brand stuff if it is of equal quality.

No. Unfortunately most Americans love cheap shite and buying things they don’t need and can’t afford. Prices will also never go back to what they were.
