I've been waiting for this one.
ETA: This is why Ukraine is such a big deal and why Russia isn't going to just stop. It's is a major weakness of ours that our enemies can easily exploit. If we threaten China's food supply they have Russia to help out there.

Now do we understand why we need to clawback our industries?

China mined those rare earth minerals from other countries via threats

Changes nothing about not being able to source these metals.

Right, my whole thing though is that maybe we should wait until we've clawed back our industries first before putting tariffs into place?

This was always mainly a war against China.
But you can't just sanction China.
You have to be hard on countries like mexico because of china.

Wait they did it again? Didn’t they do that a couple of months ago too?

Sounds like we have some opportunity to change that.

We are on a two year timeline bud.
It's now or never. No one else was going to do this.

What metals does China have that we don't?

What part of these companies wouldn't come back with current economic environment don't we understand here?

It's a smart play by China and one that we should've seen coming. God, I hope they saw this coming and how to get ahead of it. Medicines and medical equipment are another one for them to exploit.

That says the US lacks processing capabilities, which means we ship what we mine to China to process it; and the rest of your bullets were unproven potentials.
Fact is, this is years out from being something we do ourselves. Just wait until the environmentalists get hold of the thought or processing this here, lawsuits begin.
Imagine 10 or more years of not having the metals needed for just the military.

Russia has already selling all the wheat to China that the west uaed to sell. Bidens foreign policy to thank for that.
"Rare earth metals" aren't that rare. We have significant deposits here in America. We just have to relax some of the federal regulations so that mining them is profitable for American companies.
