Good for him. He probably had to bust his arse to get that position, just like his dad did to be an awesome senator.

I see the word equity on every fricking thing now. It’s like they slyly introduced it then removed equality from the vocabulary.

What are the odds that the very best person for the job also happens to be from his own family?

Interestingly enough, his appointment by Biden came in just under the requirement for Senate confirmation based on this.

Biden, Buttigieg Move Quickly To Install Potentially Transformative DOT Team
quote:

The incoming Biden team wasted no time getting its key transportation appointments underway, sending former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg before the Senate for confirmation as DOT Secretary less than 24 hours after the President and Vice President took to the Capitol balcony to be sworn in.

quote:

Many of the names made public on Thursday will serve as deputies or assistants, and this is by design. In those roles they don’t require Senate confirmation and can therefore hit the ground running. The more senior roles will be named later. And given the political reality of a very short window of action – perhaps as short as 18 months, ahead of 2022 elections – moving quickly to make real and visible progress on projects that make ordinary Americans’ lives better will be at a premium. It’s a smart decision by the incoming team and it speaks to how serious they are about making rapid gains.

From another document:
quote:

PLANS OF THE HOUSE TRANSPORTATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE COMMITTEE As is always the case in the legislative world, the President proposes, and the Congress disposes. Legislators have their own views about the issues, and even when there is substantial agreement between the Executive and the Legislative branches, the Congress will make its mark. Chair Peter DeFazio of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee have introduced their vision (with this description condensed taken from their summary of the bill; a more-detailed section-by-section analysis is available):
