How much did it hurt for CNN to type that out? Because I have been assured that Trump had caved, was caving, in the process of caving, and has reversed his stance on China multiple times on this board. In fact, the OT couldnt race over to here fast enough to gloat

I did; still do. Trump has the bigger stick, but Xi has the more compliant population. I felt that Trump would probably prevail, but it could fizzle out, which would be a win for Xi.
We still don’t know how this will go. If Trump ends with a tariff situation that is better for America, but not really materially so, that could be a win for Xi, because he is winning the status quo ante. What would determine that is the rate at which American companies were decoupling from China. That’s as big a deal as the relative tariff rates.

People that run govt and businesses are looking at the next quarter results. If they can buy themselves a month they survive another quarter. They aren’t all Bezos musk and buffet working 2 years ahead of everyone else.
