Cracker Barrel Went Woke and Now It’s Going Broke:
“In June of 2023 Cracker Barrel went woke, deciding that it could bring in new customers and investors by sexualizing the front porch with rainbow-striped rocking chairs. As it turned out, that was not a good marketing strategy, and it had the effect of repulsing existing customers who don’t want country cooking to be sexualized, be it gay, straight, or otherwise.
The fallout was immediate, with consumers announcing boycotts and the stock price taking an initial hit. Despite a lack of headlines or buzz since then, the boycott has continued and has been devastating to Cracker Barrel. The restaurant chain permanently ran off a great many loyal customers, and the persistently “unexpected” decline in traffic is taking a serious financial toll on the company.
It was just announced this week that Cracker barrel is slashing its dividend by 81%. Cracker Barrel stock has fallen from $102 per share at the start of “Pride Month” 2023 to $49 per share now, a 52% decline.”

But "Go woke, go broke" is a myth, just like "Trickle down economics"--just ask our resident purple-haired freaks like 4Chubbies

Occasionally ate at CB but haven't since this.

Some of us have been boycotting restaurants like Cracker Barrel with their seed oil laden and ultra processed food for many years now. I don't like their LGBT rocking chair stunt but it's less egregious than the poisoning of their patrons. There's a reason the average Cracker Barrel customer is severely obese and a few feet short of the grave.

I’ve literally only seen one type of person enter Cracker Barrel
And it’s not the type who would like that

Cracker Barrel sucks, but this is still a little cherry-picked. e.g. both McDonalds and Starbucks are down in the past year (Starbucks more than 20%). And it's not like Cracker Barrel was beating the world headed into June 2023. The stock price on the eve of the gay chair roll out was already 35% lower than it was in 2019.

Good Lawd.
Cracker Barrel appeals to the geriatric crowd after church on Sunday and retirees in their motor homes.
Rainbow rocking chairs?

I was unaware of this but haven't been to one in years even though there is one in my city..that being said...talk about not knowing your customer base. I'd imagine they certainly trend toward the more elderly who aren't about that shite

With that crap food, there was no more room for error either.

The food quality has also gone down since around covid. We used to hit their breakfast once very couple of months. Not anymore. I never noticed they went woke though.

This is like NASCAR trying to go woke. You have to know your customer base

quote:it wasn't a marketing strategy. can't you people see they were blackmailed?
As it turned out, that was not a good marketing strategy

Their food quality had been going downhill LONG before the covid BS.
They started the downhill slide 15+ years ago. I don't think I have eaten there since 2009-10 timeframe. Wife went a couple of times after that because a family member "really wanted Cracker Barrel" so she relented. She had the same opinion, and this is from two people who would make a trip to CB just to eat a meal now and then, and make a point of trying to have breakfast there if we were travelling and one was close by back in the 80's-2000's.

Woke or not, all chain restaurants are in dire straights

CB CEO is a woman. She spoke at a convention I was at once, and this doesn’t surprise me a bit.

CBRL's problem is not revenue, it is basically at an all-time high, and comparable restaurant earnings were up in the 2Q. The issue with earnings. Their earnings have been taking a bath since mid-21. Any boycotts have had a minimal impact on revenue.
