Debate Location - McCamish Pavilion at Georgia Tech

USA Today reported on June 20th, "The CNN Presidential Debate will take place at 9 p.m. ET, Thursday, June 27, at CNN's Atlanta studios."
But from all the live shots I'm seeing today, the debate is set to happen at Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion.
There is no audience so why take it out of a studio setting and move it into GT's basketball arena? Why have all that space for just two candidates and two debate moderators?
Only reason I can figure is the larger area will help minimize the sound of interruptions when only one candidate's mic is on. Bigger space, podiums moved further apart.

They need a lot of space for all of the New York Times fact checkers who will be in attendance

Probably want to ensure neither’s mic can pick up anything the other is saying when they need to “cut em.”
