Two year phase out of 8 artificial food dyes, most of which are already banned in other parts of the developed world.

Can't wait for the "drinking coal tar waste is actually a good thing" takes from the left in the coming days.

How has it been for you? Are there name brands of candy and such you still eat? Or name brands drinks? I don’t eat stuff like donuts, muffins, or cakey stuff, but sweet tarts are a crutch of mine. Also Gatorades. I don’t drink soft drinks

Certainly not the first time I have posted this but I was in the offshore hydraulic fluids business in oil & gas for many years. Offshore they use water-based fluids so they can discharge to sea in deepwater water after functioning a valve. Fluids have food based dyes in them to assist with identification if a fluid is leaking somewhere topside. Some of you guys offshore know MacDermid, Castrol, and Houghton... BOP, Mocomp/Tensioner, and water-based production control fluids.

Some of the food grade dyes used in the Gulf of Mexico in water-based"environmentally friendly" fluids just 3 years ago were banned in Norway in the late 90s from discharge to sea. In the GOM they passed required EPA toxicity testing until 4 or 5 years ago and even then they were given X number of years to try and find replacement dyes.

So 24+ years ago many of the dyes found in our food here in the U.S. were banned from discharge into the North Sea because they were tested and found to be too toxic and had insufficient biodegradation to be discharged to the open sea. Apparently it was still good enough for human consumption in the good ole USA.

Crazy what food companies have been poisoning us and our kids with. It would be considered criminal in Norway if it was 1998. Autism on the rise in the U.S..... you don't say??

Nobody poisoned you or your kids. The ingredients are on the side of the packaging. Read it and
Make a decision. If you ate so
Much of it that you’re actually sick or mentally compromised, you failed yourself with your eating habits. And you failed your kids. Blame yourself if you didn’t supervise your kids diet. Not just the manufacturers.

My mom is a retired dietician. You think we gave a shite how she told us to eat when she wasn’t around? I’m not saying you are all wrong but most kids, especially when it comes to food, it’s going to be irrelevant what you teach them, in times you aren’t around…..school, spending night or hanging out with friends, ballgames, etc.

Isn’t there a level of trust that food companies won’t add stuff to your food that will wreck your sht up?

The dyes mentioned in OP have not been found to be toxic to humans. They've been found to be toxic to rats at high doses.

I kind of understand this line of thinking. at the same time there has to be SOME trust in your day to day life. Do you inspect a chair before you sit down or check your brake lines before you drive? The FDA was supposed to be that line of trust. But it turned into a lobbying organization to make money at the expense of American health.

Big pharma won't like it.

It’s amazing what can happen when you don’t let the pharmaceutical and food industries run the health policy in this country.

Good start but there is so much crap that big 'food' uses that is slowly poisoning us.

*High-fructose corn syrup needs to be high on the list. That crap is in a lot of 'foods' and beverages. The junk is quickly absorbed into the body and goes straight to the liver and kicks fat production into overdrive.

*MSGs(monosodium glutamate) The junk is used to make food taste good and sends chemicals/signals to the brain which causes overeating.

*Hydrogenated and pre-hydrogenated foods.

*Artificial sweeteners such as NutraSweet, Splenda, sucralose...and the list goes on.

There is lots of other junk(s) that big food sneaks into the food supply that we have little idea what they are.

What exactly have we been funding the FDA for all these years? To allow harmful substances in our food and medicine as long as they list those substances on the package?

I didn’t see the whole RFK Jr. statement earlier, just saw the food dye headline. The whole statement was really interesting and the food dyes are just the first step.

One point he made really stood out to me - 74% of American kids cannot qualify to serve in the military. I know we’ve got recruiters on here who have talked about this before and how many kids need waivers for their various issues to enlist but wow. A world superpower, playing the role of world protector for decades, meanwhile 3/4 of our young people are now unfit to serve. All this talk of “tariffs are unsustainable” - no THIS is unsustainable.

You misspelled and misabbreviated Gulf of America. It’s cool though. It’s still kind of a new spelling.
