I’m looking to get several months of non perishables. 4Patriot is a lot cheaper. I was thinking of getting a smaller amount on mypatriotsupply with a bigger load of 4Patriot.

Are there better or cheaper options out there?

Give me the deets

I have a kit from my patriot supply but the vast majority I bought from Augason Farms bc I rather buy the exact things we eat and not have stuff that we don’t even like. Rice, flour, sugar, grits, oats, pasta, salt, spices, yeast, baking powder/soda, instant potatoes, etc.... I’ve bought all this in bulk from Walmart, Costco and Sams and then stored in Mylar bags with O2 absorbers I ordered from USA Emergency Supply.

There is some sort of controversy between 4Patriot and MyPatriotSupply. I think 4Patriot doesn't make their stuff, they buy from other companies and MyPatriot was one of the main components they used.

I've got some MyPatriot stuff but mostly use NutrientSurvival and Augason Farms and Mountain House. Augason isn't selling through their website right now but you can get it from Amazon and other places.

I check several times daily on Augason’s Amazon page for any flash sales. Last night I got lucky and grabbed the big #10 can of bananas for just $11. By the time my friend went to buy hers it was $25 in just a few mins, The eggs have quadrupled in cost since May. Their freeze dried whole egg went from $33 to $115. I have several but constantly check for sales so I can add more to my supply.

The eggs are crazy for sure. Last Augason I bought were $79. Nutrient Survival's are $55 I think. Great deal on the Bananas, I'll start checking their storefront more often.

I'm like you, we use the mylar bags for grains, rice, beans, and pasta. We felt late starting on it when covid lockdowns began but now have a comfortable and growing stockpile.

An 80.00 pressure cooker, 60.00 worth of jars with lids, a vacusealer, freezer vacuseal bags on a roll, a decent stand up freezer, and a decent dehydrator. Learn to can, dehydrate, and buy in bulk to freeze.

If you can’t grow your own vegetables then buy in season local from a farmers market and can stuff. Sams/Costco have decent meat in bulk fairly cheap (by comparison) and you can freeze or dehydrate stuff yourself. Dedicate a closet to canned food and put stuff you can and non parshibles in there. Use and rotate stuff so that it doesn’t go bad.

You don’t need MREs if you can just do some basic stuff yourself. Learn to grow a basic garden, buy a meat slicer and a dehydrator to make jerky/dried fruit/vegetables. Learn to do for yourself because if it ever comes down to needing MREs to life off, what happens when you run out of MREs?

My go to for bulk, longterm emergency food, is My Patriot Supply. The taste is a little better than 4Patriots and they're about the same price. The biggest difference for me is the calorie count. My Patriot Supply gives you an average of 2,000 calories per person, per day, where 4Patriots only gives you an average of 1,505 calories per day. That's a big difference and all the professionals say the average man needs about 2,000 calories per day. That's why My Patriot Supply targets that number, but I found most others don't.

Mountain House has the best tasting longterm emergency food and it comes in the most convenient pouch. The pouch is awesome because you don't have to use any plates. Just boil water, pour it in the pouch and eat it from there. The downside to Mountain House is the exorbitant price. It's 4 or 5 times the price of My Patriot Supply, but worth it if money is no object.

Readywise is also a good brand. The taste is just average and the calorie count isn't as good as My Patriot Supply, but they're constantly running specials that make the low price hard to pass up.

My breakdown of longterm Freeze-dried food is about 75% My Patriot Supply, 15% Readywise and 10% Mountain House. These are just the ones I went with. There's a lot of other hiking" or "backpacking" companies that make Freeze-dried food, but they don't sell in 3, 6 or 12 month bundles, so their price individually can be very high.

A Mylar bag with O2 absorbers are the best thing for bulk storage. Bug larvae will die. Just vacuum sealing bags won’t do the trick for long term storage of dry goods.

You can also use a jar with new lids for fresh seals and drop an O2 absorber in it.

Nobody likes Freeze-dried food. These are longterm storage suggestions for SHTF.

I wish I had a freeze dry machine but they are very expensive. Several people have told me that it’s worth buying at the sale prices from these companies bc it would cost as much buying it yourself with today’s prices. Not to mention the time consuming process of making it a powder form.

Now this is a thread that we all may benefit from.

I noticed my local grocery store was surreal packed today. It was eerie. The parking lot was packed to over full and people were like robots shopping in bulk.

Can we change this thread title to a generalized stocking up thread so it lasts and garners more interest?

With hurricanes on the horizon we all need this.

Anyone have a rainwater bucket item idea with a spicket? Or the best water filtration stuff?

Sean Ryan sells some on his Vigilante' Elite site but I don't want to go that extensive.

This would be great. I have spent months learning everything I can and there are many others with years of experience who can share what they’ve learned here. It’s a lot to learn and would be nice to share ideas and get advice.
