Have We Discussed The College Students Being Held in Denmark?

I am posting this here because it might have a political angle.

Two rich college students from Chicago (ages 19 and 20) went to Denmark for spring break. Denmark is holding them in solitary confinement with no charges. (The attorney for the students says no charges have been filed). Denmark also revoked their passports because they are a "flight risk."

Denmark's story:

Students took an Uber, but cancelled the trip without paying. Driver confronted them and the kids beat him up. Driver had to go to the hospital.

The students' story:

They say they took the ride, but put in the wrong address by mistake. As a result, they asked for the ride to be cancelled. As they walked away, the driver followed them in his car and confronted them saying they didn't pay. (The college students have provided the receipts that they paid). There is video of the incident in which the students are heard saying "go ahead and call the Cops, we paid you." (This video has not been released to media and it's not clear who took the video). The students deny assaulting him.

I just don't see two college students going around assaulting people for no reason in a foreign country. If an assault did happen, it was because the driver was being weird and following them around. (Both sides agree the driver was following them around).

How much you wanna bet this is Denmark trying to flex to piss off Trump over the Greenland thing?

You think this

Is more likely than college-aged kids making poor choices?

Interesting.

Going with the Danish Flex while riding a bike. Very rare.

You should. What if this happened to you and your country ignored your plight?

If you're a visitor in a foreign country you better mind your Ps and Qs and follow the rules and laws.

Looks like we are starting to do unto others what is done to us.

Have them call the U.S. Embassy in Denmark. That's the proper channel. Are we holding any political prisoners of Denmark to trade? President Trump. Do not trade for them.

I’m currently in Copenhagen to visit my daughter who is in grad school here!! Not surprisingly, I’m not following local (or international) news while here on vacation.

First of all, thanks for sharing

Secondly, it literally could have been me. It can be tricky to use the right addresses for Americans here. The Danish alphabet, language and pronunciations are almost impossible for foreigners. You literally cannot correctly pronounce the majority of street names. I can see the typing error happening easily.

Thirdly, these folks are pretty strongly left politically and some have openly asked about/criticized Trump. Many are quite salty, even though they are all being very polite to us tourists.

I can imagine some of them taking offense at what they see as an arrogant couple of American white males.

Very cool. Is she at Copenhagen or DTU (technically in Lyngby). Used to teach over there in the summers.

Don't go to a foreign country and beat up an Uber driver under any circumstances.

Thank you for the reminder. I will not suffer this same plight.

She’s at Copenhagen, or KU as she calls it.

Technically, she’s in a European program called Erasmus Mundi. Her Master’s program is in renewable natural resource management (or some such terminology ??). Her second year will be in Milan, Italy.
