How accurate is this George Carlin quote? (from around 2000ish)

Posted on 7/21/19 at 8:53 pm
quote:
"That's all the media and the politicians are ever talking about, the things that separate us, things that make us different from one another. That's the way the ruling class operates in any society. They try to divide the rest of the people. They keep the lower and the middle classes fighting with each other so that they the rich, can run off with all the f---ing money. Fairly simple thing. Happens to work. You know, anything different, thats what they gonna talk about. Race, religion, ethnic and national backgrounds, jobs, income, education, social status, sexuality. Anything they can do, keep us fighting with each other so that they can keep going to the bank. You know how I describe the economic and social classes in this country? The upper class keeps all of the money, pays none of the taxes. The middle class pays all of the taxes, does all of the work. The poor are there just to scare the sh-- out of the middle class. Keep them showing up at those jobs."
I’m not trying to make this into a dem vs republican type of post.. I’m mainly referring to politicians in general. Do y’all think he (and countless others) are correct, or is the current political and social climate in our country inevitable no matter what politicians do or talk about?
It appears that Mr. Carlin was WAY ahead of his time, not just with this excerpt, but many of his other rants
Discuss.
Also, feel free to share any other Carlin bits that you may like

I'm no fan of politicians but how exactly is the upper class making money off of dividing us in that way? The media, absolutley. But other than that and running for office, how does one monetize that?

This country is divided and will alway be divided.

The bottom part of the quote is completely inaccurate.

If only Carlin were alive to see Trump in office

How does my multi-business consumer services company, run by rich people, gain from "dividing" us?

He makes a lot of good points, and there is certainly a lot of honesty in his humor(otherwise there would be no humor) but it’s not as simple as rich vs middle class vs poor.
But he is very correct about segmenting and dividing Americans.

Orwell wrote about it long before Carlin and I’m sure people were saying the same thing way before Orwell

To be honest, I was more interested in the top part of the quote.. the part about politicians keeping us divided. I guess I should have clarified

I mean I get the sentiment but a lot of that is just not true. The very rich and the upper upper middle class pay all of the taxes in this country. I like to think that my tax dollars are a sizable contribution to our country’s annual revenue but I realize I’m still getting a pretty solid deal compared to the people who actually pay for our welfare state. The “rich people not paying taxes “ routine by the left is comical.

Carlin was running the old left wing software long after it was obvious everyone else was running the multiculturalism.exe with the diversityisourstrength.zip sticker pack. Way behind his time.
Interestingly, this is why conservatives are sometimes into older liberals entertainers. They and their conservative fans are 20 years behind the progressive curve.

Was that a humblebrag that you're a multi-millionaire?
But still regret you don't make a dent in the 1% tax bracket.

That is 100% false. But it is what leftists believe. That is a huge part of their problem... they believe political and economic theories and outright falsehoods that are easily debunked.
Carlin would have been in love with today’s liberals. The redistribution.. the giveaways.. it was all right up his alley.

quote:No, it was me admitting I’m not an OT baller. My point was the middle class pays and contributes but the real tax burden is carried by the top 10-20% of earners.

Government kickbacks, crony capitalism works for all members of the political spectrum.

His quote is correct in terms of the whole "divide us intentionally" part.
However, it's about power primarily.
And, sorry. His quote about taxes is just simply not correct.
That said, his quote about the poor being there to scare us is true.
I will say as a caveat, the tax line is not 100% false. It's just that what most people call "middle class" isn't who actually pays a disproportionate amount of taxes.
The category of people most royally fricked by income taxes is the group I refer to as the "well off". The truly wealthy LOVE to keep us talking about "income" taxes because that shite hits your local brain surgeon, not Warren Buffet.

Exactly. It just seems so divided now because the media (which serves as the liberal mouthpiece) is on the losing side. shite was just rainbows and unicorns under Obama, and would have been under Hillary.

This is really true.
Under Obama, opposition was painted as this very strange small group of people.
Under Trump, the opposition is painted as the massive groundswell of Americans opposing, oddly enough, a "small group of people" who elected a President!!!
And, while they go on and on about popular vote, I mean, it's not like both candidates didn't get around 60 million votes.
It ain't like Trump had 10 million votes and somehow, miraculously won the EC
