Does anyone know what the goal is at this point?

It appears to be to create unnecessary chaos that may have long term negative repurcussions

You’re always posting weird articles about chinas dominance over the US.

I have almost 13k post. You could not find 50 post about articles of China's dominance over the U.S. that I posted. Don't be like other DeSimps and start lying because you don't agree with my opinion in every situation. My opinion is this statement by Scott Bessent is weak and does nothing to help China come to the table and negotiate on America's terms

There is no way to know whether Trump's plan will work.

There are only two known in this whole thing:

It was absolutely necessary for Trump to choose this strategy.

You and others with TDS will let us know how you feel about this strategy multiple times daily.

If that statement is correct why is our Treasury Secretary coming out with a statement of surrender saying he expects descalation and the situation with China is unsustainable.

He's saying, since you don't deduce very well, that China will not be able to survive long term when trade with the US is shut down.

The US is by far the largest trading partner with China. The fact that China is threatening European countries with "countermeasures" tells you that they are not speaking from a position of strength...

The deal we should be going for, is they shift more of their food imports to US producers

They also need to leave BRICs. There is no point trading with a state that seeks to destroy our economy

This suggests that we didn't have a good deal previously

I agree but this does the opposite. China has not called and just said yesterday they would punish other countries who negotiate with the US on terms unfavorable to China. Today Bessent tells a group from JPM that de-escalation is coming shortly and this is unsustainable. The odds of China coming to the table on America's terms just decreased drastically

No. I mean what was the whole point of this trade war?

Will any objectives be accomplished?

The Chinese will lose faith in communism. They love them some capitalism currently. As does other communist nations

Some manufacturing will stay in the US, because they cant control the electorate anymore

And globalism will be put back on the shelf. I mean has it solved any world problems? We have an actual pre-WW3 situation in Ukraine. We have an actual cold war between the US, China, and the EU. We have failed fake pandemic to try to control the masses. Globalism has failed due to its deceit and secrecy

Yes, because so many options have been offered as the objective. We implemented tariffs to:

1) Bring manufacturing back home
2) To reduce or eliminate tariffs put on our exports
3) To generate revenue to eliminate the income tax
4) Tariffs will fix all of the GlobalHomo problems
5) And this is my personal favorite, it will allow us to "refinance" our debt

It's a smorgasbord of "objectives." And some of those "objectives" are in direct contradiction with one another. But, just like a smorgasbord, there is something for everybody.

Or it could be creating necessary chaos that may have long term positive repercussions.

The only thing we should be really interested in is if the results are a long term net benefit for us

It does seem that some people (not you it appears) are willing to call this a success if only one of the many unclear objectives are met.
