It's been 20 years since Drudge broke the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal

BILL CLINTON-MONICA LEWINSKY SCANDAL 20 YEARS ON: WHERE ARE ALL THE MAJOR FIGURES NOW?

It's been 20 years since the Drudge Report broke the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky affair, which would mar Clinton's presidency and bring a House impeachment vote.
Multiple figures were involved in the scandal: Clinton, the president of the United States. Lewinsky, an 22-year-old unpaid intern whom Clinton initially claimed he "never had sexual relations" with. Linda Tripp, the civil servant who recorded the damning audiotapes. And so on.
In 1998, you probably couldn't go anywhere without hearing about the affair. And Lewinsky couldn't go anywhere without being berated by the paparazzi.
Interesting tidbit from Newsweek:

As the #MeToo movement gained momentum, Starr's name anchored a trending Twitter campaign in November—“Ken Starr Was Right”—that supported the idea that Clinton should have resigned or been booted from office.

I was there and paying attention every day (5 times a day). Isakoff was the guy who spiked the story. The MSM was confident that the Internet could not give a story legs. They refused to report it in print media or network TV newscasts for a week.
The top message board covering it then was FreeRepublic. Linda Tripp and Jonah Goldberg's mom, Lucianne, were regular posters. It's gone downhill since those days but Drudge is still must read stuff.

So even 20 years ago, they were mostly not independent and were virtually a tool for the Clintons.

Yes. The only reason to spike the story, which was well researched, was to protect Clinton. The Newsweek employee who got pissed linked it to Drudge after going through verification.
The verification worked like this.
"I am from Newsweek and I'm sending you this story they spiked.'
Drudge: "Prove you are who you say you are."
Leaker: 'In 2 weeks Newsweek will run an issue with stories 'x,y,z'. No one knows this except employees.
Two weeks later the Newsweek issue is exactly as the mole describes. Drudge runs the leaked story.

So why is Drudge an establishment dick sucker now?
All about the benjamins, zero integrity?
