Well, he was 18 in 2002 and, assuming the victims were 14, could have been Sr. and Fr. HS hookups which led to a lighter plea. Not saying it's okay/making excuses. Just a possible reason.
ETA obviously I didn't see the ages. I went straight to reading the charges. I was just proposing a scenario where a lighter sentence might make sense.

Anyone who does that to my kid is getting two to the chest one the head. Probably got saved by the cops putting him in jail, dude should have been six feet under but he's roaming around Portland pretending he's oppressed. 1) Poster is clearly speaking from a place of intense, anticipated emotion given if such a horrific tragedy occurred to his own child. Does not make him an idiot. Makes him human.
2) While you are likely correct about the outcome from the given situation, it is awfully easy and lazy to project you would take some kind of pussified moral ground. Either you have no children or if you do then they got stuck with a Beta.
