Police on Sunday arrested a rape suspect authorities believe had threatened to kidnap television personality Kathie Lee Gifford.

Richard D. Jones, 33, of Shelby, N.C., was arrested without incident at a bus station in Lynchburg on a fugitive-from-justice warrant, said Capt. Tommy Litton of the Gaston County, N.C., police.

Gaston County authorities on Friday notified police in Greenwich, Conn., where Gifford lives, about the threats that a rape victim said Jones had made. They also notified Gifford's security staff at an Atlantic City hotel where she stayed while taping the Miss America pageant over the weekend.

Jones is charged with tying up, beating and raping a 59-year-old Gaston County woman. Police said the suspect made the threats against Gifford during the attack.

Gifford appears on the daily talk show "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee."

"He had made mention that he would like to kidnap [Gifford] and get some money," said Gaston County Police Capt. Archie Huffstetler.

Police recovered a scrapbook that Jones apparently made containing pictures of Gifford from celebrity magazines, Huffstetler said. Authorities said the scrapbook was left at the rape victim's house.

The rape occurred in a home in southern Gaston County on Wednesday. The woman told police she let a man she recognized into her house around midnight after he knocked on her door.

The man then forced the woman into her bedroom, bound her with duct tape and raped her. He also forced her to write him a $1,400 check and fled in the woman's car.

Authorities found what was thought to be the stolen car at the Lynchburg Regional Airport.

Jones was being held in the Lynchburg City Jail without bond pending extradition proceedings.

Do you actually believe that Frank Gifford knew for a full week that the FBI believed the life of his wife to be in danger, yet Frank did not tell her this? In all seriousness, how would your wife react, if she were to learn that you had hidden that sort of information from her?

I absolutely believe it. Frank came from a different time, and was cut from different cloth.

If the threat happened to your wife, you’d be in the corner sobbing uncontrollably. She’d be trying to console you.

I found this connection interesting. Frank Gifford’s daughter married one of RFK’s sons. Now Trump has RFK Jr. in his power circle.

Thank you. This report is entirely consistent with what I said above about there being a core of truth to her story.

I was just about to ask the same thing. Did she mention this prior to either election. Probably not. I mean he only saved your life. Probably written 10 books without a mention I guess.

She says so now because its kinda cool I suppose.

I remember feeling sorry for Regis.

She’s prob embellishing a bit but the overall theme seems true. Some crazy guy was out there. She was at the miss America pageant in Atlantic City.

He may be brash, and arrogant as all get out. But he is a good man with something lacking today-COMMON SENSE.

Donald Trump also sheltered Jennifer Hudson and some of her family members after a maniac murdered her mother, brother, and nephew.

I suggest that you read the OP again.

It includes no indication that the FBI told Gifford that he should not alert his wife to this threat.
