Louisiana may have accidentally legalized THC products. Now officials want to crack down.

In November, John Williams, the top beer lobbyist in Louisiana, sent out a mass email to legislators with an alarming subject line: “Recreational THC is now legal in Louisiana.”
He distributed pictures of gas stations and smoke shops advertising products full of THC -- the psychoactive chemical found in marijuana – many of which hit the shelves after House Speaker Clay Schexnayder ushered through legislation to set up a legal hemp industry in the state. In a followup email, Williams, who opposed the hemp legislation, said the businesses selling the THC-laden products play by a looser set of rules than alcohol retailers.
quote:
Schexnayder’s 2022 bill set up an “adult-use” market for consumable products made from hemp. Schexnayder assured fellow legislators, many of whom oppose legal recreational marijuana, that his legislation wouldn’t give people access to products that get them high.
quote:
It is now easier than ever for adults to get access to gummies and other products that get them high. That’s largely because the products contain Delta 8 THC, a compound from the cannabis plant that is slightly different from the Delta 9 THC that defines marijuana.
quote:
Now, regulators and lawmakers are trying to unring the bell and crack down on a massive proliferation of THC-laden products that have become widely and legally available.

How can they legally crack down on a legal product?

This isn't a loophole. This was always how it goes. LA is one of the last states to do this.
John Williams (or his client) is showing he's an ignorant fricking idiot or shamelessly drumming up business from authoritarians.

By making more laws, like small government conservatives love to do.
They're going to lower the allowable THC% from hemp products.
These amounts are all based in federal law, FWIW.

Delta 8 is the O’Douls of weed

Pot is such a shitty "drug" that all the fears are misplaced. Its pain management properties are incredibly overstated.

Yep, when Trump passed the farm bill in 2018 it left a loophole that got exploited. Whoever wrote that bill is dumb as hell because it tried to specifically exclude weed but actually opened up a bunch of different components as de facto legal.

Definitely. It's why I say legalize it. The only thing that was interesting about it at all is that it was illegal.
As soon as everybody's retired mom is popping gummies to night night the whole thing becomes a whole lot less interesting.

Never tried delta 8. Not legal in Arkansas.
Does it really get you high?

At least the small govt conservatives are focusing on the really important things affecting the state.

Delta-8 is legal. Simple as that. It’s a compound from hemp. How it is extracted varies from company to company. What you see on the package may or may be true. Quality of product depends on manufacturer.
FHA refuses to do its job and regulate Delta-8. It needs to step up and set standards.

Louisiana is retarded. Some of the best growing land in the country, but, won't use it for weed because.......uh, Jesus, or something.

Pretty much. Weed isn't a drug, I can get higher from cigarettes.
It affects people differently but is really tame and in no way should be illegal.

1. Learn about THCa and what it turns into.
2. Read the farm bill.
3. Enjoy.

Could you possibly just brief it on the most essential aspects, or keynotes? Or perhaps the overalls conclusions that you’re proposing? Please? Yes, I’m lazy.

Flower 1:
0.50% delta 9 THC
19.50% THCa
20% total THC
Flower 2:
0.25% delta 9 THC
19.75% THCa
20% total THC
One of those is federally legal, the other is not. I have heard you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference when taking part.
Edit: Louisiana is a total THC state so both are illegal in the state.
