Met with Scalise this morning

I and few mayors had a meeting with Congressman Scalise this morning. We discussed FEMA, DOGE freezing FEMA funds, potable water infrastructure, sewer infrastructure among other things.
When it came to my turn I thanked him for his help with funding the US Hwy 190 widening in my area, explained Cured-in-Place-Plastic lining of terracotta sewer lines (which he was either very interested in or feigned interest) and how my city received $4.5M from the American Rescue Plan Act (Biden, Covid response), St. Tammany received $50M and New Orleans received $300M … the printing of which contributed largely to the devaluation of the dollar.
I ended on how upset I am about one thing in particular. I am having trouble getting over Tuesday night: Northwestern beating LSU in baseball … he finished my statement by exclaiming "By the Ten Run Rule!" He then spoke for the next dozen minutes knowledgeably about NIL baseball and football. He is very bullish on Nuss and on our Tigers this Fall.

Typical weasel. Let’s talk about football not the tough issues I have a jellyfish spine on. This dude is comfortable in the swamp

Why not decline the funds if you feel strongly about it?

Steve needs to speak up and tell Jay to stop tinkering this late in the season.

Seriously though. Everyone knows, Jones at 1st, Braswell at 3rd, Brown at RF, and let Frey and Josh DH depending if a right or lefty is pitching.

Let's hope he doesn't post under the screen name Dukke V.

That’s my favorite reaction gif.
I’m not saying I can compete with Harrison Ford in the looks department (in his younger years anyway), but I’ve been told my natural resting scowl a-hole face is similar.
And yes this post ironically deserves that gif.

Did he discuss Trump’s plan to gut FEMA and how that may affect the state and local communities?

Because he’s not a moron. I’m against certain tax breaks, but if they are the law I’m going to take advantage of them. This is not hypocrisy; it is rational. Here is why:
If I voluntarily give up this particular tax break, that I pocketed about $300,000 because of, I lose $300,000 and the government gets $300,000. If the tax breaks is eliminated I lose $300,000 and the government gets several hundred billion dollars. It is worth it to me to lose $300k if the government gets several hundred billion dollars. It is not worth it to me to lose $300k if all the government gets is $300k.
Understand?

I was hoping you might have brought up the bottleneck trying to get on I-12 in Covington. Both directions tied up because of 1/10 mile cluster.

Interstate widening is driven by states i.e. State DOTD funding matched by the Feds.
North Carolina has never stopped widening and improving their interstates. They have a very high gasoline tax dedicated for roads.
South Carolina has a very low gasoline tax. Their interstates are falling apart.
Mississippi used Gulf Coast casino money to widen their interstates.
LA has long been and continues to be far behind on funding interstate projects.

Thanks for the info; it nice to hear what our reps say when they are talking in small group meetings that the public does not attend.

Since they widened I-12 there needs to be a left lane westbound on ramp for the south side of 190. Keep the north side right lane westbound on ramp for the north side of 190. That should help a lot because the bottleneck happens were the north and south side exits meet before getting on to I-12.
Now that I-12 westbound is 4 lanes and a big left lane shoulder, it should be an easy project.

Did you ask him why the House has only been at work for about 30 of the last 120 days?
Posted on 4/24/25 at 2:55 pm to Fat Man
I wish you had asked him if they had any plans to impeach some of these out-of-control judges like Boasberg.
Posted on 4/24/25 at 2:55 pm to GumboPot
This is exactly what needs to happen. I-12 is not the problem at all. It's the merging of the on ramps.
Posted on 4/24/25 at 2:59 pm to Fat Man
Mayor I'm sure you have experienced what I am talking about. I-12 doesn't need to be widened anymore. The on ramps are the problem, and if the parish officials don't address it or bring it to the states attention, nothing will be done.
