A new movie about the birth of Jesus from the perspective of the Virgin Mary has come under fire due to the “controversial” casting of an Israeli actress in the lead role. You see, Mary and Joseph were “Palestinian” and not Israeli according to sky screamers on social media.

Note: If the mods feel like this belongs on the Movie/TV Board, please adjust accordingly.

This is actually hilarious now instead of frustrating. Being in the position of absolutely yeeting the modern state worshipping religion we call progressive from reality totally shifts the dynamic. We are no longer a majority people being victimized by a minority but have found our balls and none of us would care if palastan itself also was yeeted from existence

This is going to be a perfect opportunity for the board's antisemites to tell you the people living in Israel have nothing to do with the ones living in the region in Biblical times, so even casting an Israeli actor is anti-authentic.

This isn’t nearly as ridiculous as you would like to believe

This isn’t the outrage hill I would choose to die on, but the sky screamers are correct

Wow he beat me to the punch to frame the narrative. Bravo

SFP is a lawyer (apparently) but usually has all day to relentlessly hit refresh on the active tab of TD to ensure the flame of retarded leftism won’t be finally snuffed out

The view/argument is actually in the article as well

quote:

Several people online are now calling for a boycott, claiming the film is historically inaccurate because Mary and Joseph were actually "Palestinian."

"Instead of casting Middle-Eastern Christians to play the roles, the director casted European Israelis to play the roles for ‘authenticity’ reasons... yeah boycott this crap!" one account with a Palestinian flag in its profile demanded.

There will always be malcontents who will complain about anything. Maybe as a whole we should start ignoring them and in the rare cases where they get recognized just tell them no.....and move on

It’s a fact that the Palestinians have vastly more genetic similarity to the ancient Israelites than the modern Israeli Jews. That statement isn’t controversial or disputable

I was going to make a larger post originally, but went for speed over depth. I sniped your arse.

The key point was how the complaint was specifically for "Middle Eastern Christians", which I think a lot of the knuckle draggers don't even know exist.

But, this isn't my fight really. I hate all the signaling of virtue in these discussions.

*ETA: one of them thinking you were sniping at me is like sugar free sweetener for my coffee, though, early this morning.

The Jews were kicked out Palestine by the Romans some 2,000 years ago. Their descendants scattered and many of them ended up in Europe where they “cross-pollinated” with Gentiles.

Modern day Palestinians didn’t arrive in Palestine until the Arab conquests of the 7th century.

Again, you seem even more confused than earlier.

I mean I spent a lot of my time on here this weekend criticizing MAGA types for literally promoting leftism, and you claim I'm the one promoting leftism/progressivism.

I honestly don’t care about it either, but what I do care about is people like the OP who tee this up as a means to mislead people into thinking these leftists are delusional and have a circle jerk. You understand this motivation very well.

I apologize good sir. You see it’s really difficult to keep up with your 1000 post a day. Especially on UGA Tenn weekend. I’ll make sure I do better going forward so you won’t scold me on the internet though for sure.

Palestine = region

Israel = country

Jew = religious/cultural/ethnic affiliation

Mary/Joseph/Jesus could be Palestinian and/or a Jew, but not Israeli since the country of Israel didn't exist. Therefore, the nationality of an actress has jack shite to do with it.

It's like saying a citizen of the United States can't play pre-1776 George Washington because pre-1776 George Washington wasn't American (yet).
