Killing capital flow into and through the US economy. USD in free fall. Global reserve currency position is getting more tenuous each day this crank econ shitshow continues. The likelihood of great power wars increases as the global market economy fractures (guessing all that crying about Ukraine starting WWIII was just crocodile tears).

Only morons could have thought any of this economic program would work. Anyone who still thinks this is going to work out in the US's favor is a prime example in support of bringing back poll examinations to keep dimwitted people out of the electorate.

That’s the plan - it had to be done - something had to give. Trump like Reagan is having the pain early so by midterms the economy is soaring

It doesnt have to be done.

Trump only wants the dollar to shrink so it appears we dont have an import deficit anymore, because he's an idiot and doesnt understand the modern economy.

I'd say that the Volcker shock was a bigger factor than Reagan administration policy in the 1980-81 recession. For whatever its worth, Volcker was the fed chair appointed by Carter though Reagan essentially agreed with the drastic interest rate increase to shock the economic system out of inflationary trends.

Note, Trump is browbeating Powell to lower interest rates while doing things that will definitely have short-term inflationary impacts.

This isn't like Reagan or at least not a mirror image.

You never had faith in it in the first place. I just had a raise at work and we just had one of our best quarters ever. So, I don't really understand where you are coming from except that you want something that confirms your bias in order to say "I told you so". I still fully support what Trump is doing

Never thought I'd see the day where the US had 125% debt/GDP, was running $2 trillion dollar annual budget deficits (another 7% of GDP) and $1T trade deficits, importing illegal aliens by millions per year and adding them to the social welfare rolls, while having serious conversations about slashing social security and medicare. I didn't even think the dollar would hold up this long, or that we'd allow our trade adversaries to prop it up by buying our debt and equities so we could merrily continue shipping jobs offshore, destroying our industrial capacity and becoming more dependent on them to sell us things that we need but can't manufacture. But here we are.

This is where youre wrong. "They know better" but are afraid to tell Trump, who is still living in the 1800s.

My knowledge is average, which is scary since most MAGA who post here know even less.

Trump and his band want to shrink your dollar, simply so exports will balance with imports.

Do you think thats wise?

I think there is a legitimate argument that (something) needed to be done

But I think the reality is that there are a lot of fair questions about whether what's happening is in fact that (something). And I question whether the likely timeframe we're dealing with has any real chance of making dent before Trump negotiates to something he can call a win and claim victory when the economic markers rebound on new stability (all without much change to the underlying issues and arguably putting us in only marginally better spots than we were when we "took our medicine").

So he did things right in the first term but is off the mark in the second term. When did he become this idiot? Since you understand the modern economy, have you thought about political office. You are needed.

We are where we are from the previous 40 years.

Not from the past two months.
