So much so that the bar is exam is now considered racist.
Barrier to entry for minorities that want to practice law

And I agree I think medical school is a barrier to me practicing medicine and making that 300k!

The bar exam was designed and continues to operate as a mechanism for excluding the lower classes from participation in the legal services market. Elizabeth Olson of The New York Times reports that the bar exam as a professional standard “is facing a new round of scrutiny—not just from the test takers but from law school deans and some state legal establishments.” This is a welcome development. The dean of the University of San Diego School of Law, Stephen C. Ferruolo, complained to the Times that the bar exam “is an unpredictable and unacceptable impediment for accessibility to the legal profession.” He is right: The bar exam is a barrier to entry, a form of occupational licensure that restricts access to a particular vocation and reduces market competition.

It's a higher barrier if you are Asian or White.
The matriculation stats have been posted and discussed at length on the PT. Not everyone plays by the same rules.

The unfair part is admitting unprepared applicants.

I have no doubt that if they'd give me a couple of months to prepare, I could pass the bar. Hell, maybe less than that - didn't Frank Abginale study for only a week and still pass it?

Whats the matter with current testing?
In ca, you do not need a law degree.
You 21? Not a felon?
You take the bar.
Pass. Practice.
No pass, no practice.

It took my cousin Vinny six times to pass, and he didn't complain.

This is true.

Only around 45 percent of test takers pass California's notoriously tough bar exam the first time they take it.
GTFO you racist hillbilly.

ETA: you're likely a better candidate for affirmative action than Kamala Harris.

More govt when it serves your aims huh?
Shouldn't the market just figure it out?

The soft tyranny of low expectations.

If anything, the success of those that do fail the bar and end up being more successful than the first time passers could suggest that it actually doesn't hinder someone's ability be a good lawyer.
Again, people like stannix just bring it up to suggest age old innuendos

When? When the market is sitting on death row,for a crime it didn't commit?
There has to be a certain standard for certain professions like law, medicine, and strippers.
I guess the peg leg strippers showed up early to downvote me.

That article says nothing of the sort. People often improve performance on tests once they've seen the test. This is true of sat, act, gmat, etc...
You've gone beyond race warrior into full blown progressive. You are literally arguing that blacks need lower standards than whites.

So which do you have a bigger problem with?
- Affirmative action drawing less competitive applicants into medical and law schools
- Affirmative affirmative action bringing less prepared students into the bar or shelf exams.

Im not trying to say that the test aren't important; aptitude is very important and it needs to be tested.
How it's weigh though is more important. We've all seen the cases of people who are book smart but not intelligent. People that knew everything but couldn't apply it for shite.
