I keep hearing this reference regarding Russia and decided to look it up. A liitle suprising, to me.
What are the pros and cons of an oligarchy?
There is no room for free speech. Regular citizens are usually not heard when there is an oligarchy. ...
The status quo never changes. ...
Division can be a big problem. ...
The middle class often becomes nonexistent. ...
Too much power in the hands of too few people. ...
It is conducive to violence. ...
It harms the domestic economy. ...
What are some pros of having an oligarchy?
Better for women. ...
Technically, anyone can be a member of the oligarchy. ...
You still get a certain amount of debate with an oligarchy. ...
Decisions can be made at the spur of the moment. ...
It can be representative of the people. ...
Living your life is easier. ...
Most of the risks taken are conservative. ...

There are no pros to an oligarchy.
The soft tyranny of Big Tech is just as harmful to rights, freedoms and safety as overt brutality.
Leads to same result.

It’s really not conceptually much different that our expertocracy system. Power becomes concentrated among a small number of people in both.
The advantage of the oligarch is he knows he’s in power by luck or thuggery and could at least keep some humility.
The “expert” is arrogant and entitled, and is unable to adapt to unforeseen circumstances. Think of Anthony Fauci. Above average IQ. Got great grades in Med school but flattened out as a researcher. Now runs a bureaucracy with an iron fist and destroys anyone who disagrees because he thinks he’s infallible.

To quote a scholar: "Democracy is government for the people, of the people, by the people. But the people are retarded."
Whoever controls the media controls democracy. They can sway the people anyway they want. Even if there's a bill of rights, it just takes a little more effort to sway them. It leads to dictatorship, loss of freedom, war, tyranny. Democracy is 100% tyranny in disguise.

Every Western democracy is an oligarchy.
We have the same system of government that Russia does.
This is a global phenomenon, and it goes back to the end of the Middle Ages. Due to technology improvements, the merchant class grew incredibly rich. And this changed the power dynamic, displacing the church and the aristocracy.
I think oligarchy is probably the worst system of government we could have. Oligarchs have the wrong values.

The United States is basically an oligarchy at this point.

quote:Security. Women value security above all else. It's why they gold dig, and why weak men get cheated on. It's why they shouldn't vote, because they are very easily swayed by tyrants who will take away their liberties in exchange for a feeling of security. They will swap liberty for security every single time. They feel very secure in a patriarchal society, if you destroy the patriarchy, they must look to government for that security. This is also why they push to feminize the entire society in general, why they say masculinity is toxic. Easier to control.

A king could admit he was wrong, and say he's going to work to fix it. And he could change his legacy and avoid being beheaded or becoming "The Terrible"
A President can never do that, because the party has to get reelected. He must dig in his heels and always act like he's right even if it means war.
There are a lot of beloved kings, with "The Great" after their name.

I think we have been an oligarchy since at least the 1860s.
For the first thirty years we were a strange kind of electoral aristocracy.

Maybe this,

Enables this,

quote:I'll go further than that.
Every Western democracy is an oligarchy.
The eventual end result of every single form of government devised by mankind is oligarchy.
Communism.
Capitalism.
Socialism.
Democracy.
Meritocracy.
Monarchy.
Aristocracy.
Theocracy.
It doesn't matter.
They all end up with a small percentage of elites calling all the shots and holding the vast majority of the wealth, while the people gradually lose all of their liberty.
Every. Single. One.

We are headed toward a technocracy, which is very similar.
