Pittsburgh Police will no longer respond to calls between 3am + 7am unless an emergency

Few as 20 officers to cover entire city from 3am-7am. Only will be able to fill out police report over the phone for non emergency issues during that time. There will be no officers at any of the stations during that time. Call boxes will be available for people to use for emergencies during that time.
Sad these people pay for this service with their taxes and it's being taken away. Communism is in part, stealing from someone to give to another. Get locked and loaded.

So is one to assume that a monitored home security system is a waste of money? Any thoughts on other measures besides a gun?

This is a very good question. I feel like the best thing to do here is ask the alarm system provider what emergency services you can get with their system.
At what point does a home invasion become an emergency? Hopefully that is one scenario PPD considers an emergency.
