Porsche, Audi may build cars in the U.S. to Avoid Tariffs (in Chattanooga VW Plant)

Seems like Porsches have to be built in Germany to be Porsches.....but they also sell a lot of crossovers that aren't really Porsches already IMO.
Good thing for the people of Tennessee. This is likely going to their Chattanooga plant owned by VW, and will likely require additional employees and expansions.

Kudos to VW for making the Chattanooga plant work. Their New Stanton, PA plant was a fricking disaster with very heavy handed UAW shenanigans until it shuttered about 35-40 years ago. Glad they tried again in the US.

Porsche and Audi are open to building cars in the United States if the Trump administration imposes new, much higher tariffs on vehicles imported from Europe and Mexico, according to a recent report. The looming tariffs could be enacted as early as February 1, 2025.
Citing German business newspaper Handelsblatt, industry trade journal Automotive News wrote that Porsche and Audi are dangerously exposed to the new administration’s proposed tariffs because both brands import all of the cars they sell in the United States. Porsche sources all of its models from Europe: the 911, the 718, the Panamera, the Taycan, and both versions of the Macan are built in Germany, while the Cayenne is made in Slovakia. Audi’s Q5 is made in Mexico, while the other models in its range are imported from Europe.

Chattanooga is a growing tech city, not surprised at all.

Wait, but 30 Instagram Karens told me this isn’t how tariffs work!

The only problem is that they were going 100% EV.
We should have both options in the U.S. market.
We should have both options in the U.S. market.

Porsche?
Who the hell wants an EV Porsche? They can barely give away the one they have now. I'd buy a Cadillac EV before I'd buy a Porsche EV.
But I'd get a 718 or 911 sports car before any EV.

The audacity of us taking good paying jobs from Germany.

I doubt the free market wants one.
But the coerced market would have to pretend it wants them.

Replace income tax with tariffs
Tariffs cause manufacturing jobs to come back to the US
Many more Americans have a viable avenue to a middle class (now tax-free) income
Obviously it's more complicated than that and there are other obstacles to overcome and won't happen overnight. But this is great news for a start in that direction

Don't worry. The next Democrat administration will send them more than enough foreign aid to make up for it.

That entire area in Tennessee! Lots of guys work up there building plants. They pay really good too. If any of these federal workers need new careers….. electricians are needed.

And VW will probably end up selling some German factories to the Chinese. Euros/Germans really have pants themselves.

The hell you say! I've been told over and over that tariffs are nothing but taxes on the American people, and will do nothing to resurrect manufacturing and jobs in this country! Where is Roger Dodger? He will set you straight!
