Radio personality tours the Louisiana Boardwalk and claims 90% of the stores are closed.

For those who live in the area, is that true and can we trace it back to inflation and/or Biden?

I grew up in Shreveport/Bossier. Crime, inflation, ease of online shopping has killed malls across the country. It picked up exponentially after Covid.

Streetlights are on and sun is appearing to not have risen yet. Is he there at 6:00 AM?

The same goes for Lincoln Road in Sobe. Half the stores are shuttered. It's quite a sad state of affairs

High rent had a lot to do with it. Bossier imposed a curfew on teens and a ban on hats and hoodies (or something to that effect) that killed the movie theater, arcade, and Fuddruckers. And covid and online shopping, as previously mentioned, put the final nail in the coffin.

The time stamp says 8:16 pm so it is probably dusk.

The full lighting is because newer cameras can do a good job gaining the picture around that time to make it look fully lit since there are not many shadows.

Covid did it in. It was falling off prior to that though. It’s anchored with the bass pro shop and the area near it is being revitalized with restaurants, pubs, and little shops, but it seems that is not enough.

I did not realize teens with hoodies have so much money. Was that the segment of the original Boardwalk Biz plan that convinced investors to buy in? Oh, please do not worry, 50 Cent, who we can call Quarter due to Bidenomics, will save the day.

Ban on backwards hats. As others have said online shopping, Shreveport being a slightly safer than peak Kandahar played major parts in the boardwalks demise. Covid sunk its battleship

I pushed for us to move and lost that. When I was running that store the Boardwalk was popping. AT that time I had told management that the quality of stores was declining. Bossier isn't around a travel destination like the Foley outlets are. You have to have the quality of store that makes people from Texas want to drive there. Other than that your community draw really sucks as Monroe and Alexandria really aren't shite. If you really wanted to shop in brick and mortar and lived in Longview, Tyler, or Texarkana you would easily choose just to go to Dallas. The next thing is you were bottlenecked into a DUI if you were drinking there. You had a night club, comedy club, bars, and restaurants for entertainment. Bossier PD would be shooting fish in a barrel and people chose to go elsewhere. Currently they are fighting to let people have an open container while walking. It would be great if they made that change so you could try and do a concert series under the bridge there. Also, one of the first stores you see is a Dollar General and reaffirms what I was telling them around 2009

This doesn’t surprise me either. Ruston built a shopping center with a Hobby Lobby, Old Navy, Ulta, and TJ Maxx about 2.5 years ago. They built a little strip with 4 spots in front of it for small restaurants, specialty shops, etc. that has sat empty that entire time. They finally got a t mobile open a couple of months ago, but still can’t get anyone in the other spots. They must be asking an outrageous amount.

I don't live there but my daughter and grandbabies do and I've been there many, many times throughout the years. Haven't been to the boardwalk in a couple of years, but I have NEVER seen it anywhere near as dead as in that video. I didn't see a single other person in the video. He's right, that place use to buzz with business. Very sad if this video is a true depiction of its current state.

I'll add, since I saw someone mention curfews, that I think crime was starting to become an issue there as well. I mean Shreveport is a hot bed of criminal activity so stands to reason it would spill over across the river just like it does in New Orleans, Memphis, etc. Sooner or later they get tired of robbing and killing each other.

Online shopping has killed all of these stores. They just can’t compete.

No. It was a shite deal from the start, might call it a “public -private p-ship” now.

Boardwalk WSJ 2011

Bossier (the city government) has a few real estate ventures that are losers, the biggest is the Brookshires Arena.

Oh and Bossier property taxes are going up bigly this year.

Paying high property tax to be in Shreveport or Bossier would have to suck.

Louisiana, in general, cannot support these type developments....

We are dead last in most all categories and no one wants move here or travel here.

Louisiana is a shithole, and always will be....and I have lived here forever.
