So Elon Musk’s SpaceX had 40 Satellites Destroyed By a Solar Storm

SpaceX loses 40 satellites to geomagnetic storm a day after launch

quote:
SpaceX has lost dozens of satellites after they were hit by a geomagnetic storm a day after launch, causing them to fall from orbit and burn up. Such solar "storms" are caused by powerful explosions on the sun's surface, which spit out plasma and magnetic fields that can hit the Earth. The company, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, said up to 40 of 49 satellites from last week's launch were hit. They had been due to join its Starlink satellite internet project.

Jacob Geer, the UK Space Agency's Head of Space Surveillance, said he does not expect "any part" of the satellites to hit the ground. "Events like this are a reminder that space is challenging - getting satellites or astronauts into orbit is still not easy," he said.

Our global warming is affecting the Sun now! It’s our fault!

We’ve had a couple m-flares recently that directly hit earth
Our electrical infrastructure and satellites are so vulnerable. I don’t understand why more isn’t being done to protect these things. We are overdue for a major flare hit

How much in taxes does the US need to pay to stop the solar flares we are causing now?

Another example of Global Warming

There are thousands of satellites. Expected failure at this point. Redundancy and recoery are key. Move on.

Liberator is going to lose it when he sees this.

If we just join the Paris climate accord and keep funding Democrat social agenda propositions global warming will go away. The science is settled.

So let me get this straight...a solar storm hit and it only destroyed Musk's satellites?
Aren't there hundreds or thousands of satellites in orbit? How was no one else hit?
Riiiiiiiiiight

Yikes. That sounds really expensive.

Democrats will look for a way to blame it on man-made climate change.

Somebody in north Louisiana posted about seeing this the other day.

They were just released and maybe not in final position to be hardened from a solar storm. The fact only recently released ones got impacted leans to this thought.

Ho hum. The gov will pay him for the loss

At $250K per satellite x 40 = $10M
Chump change for Elon - literally chump change
