He's defeated 75-25 in the primary run off tonight.

I would bet he got his somewhere stashed away. He will be alright.

The big question is the winner better or worse?

Can Jackson even be saved? The last time I was there it was shocking to see how decayed it has become since I lived there a few years in the 1990's.

More time for him to focus on his criminal defense

The replacement democrat is almost always worse. I don't remember one who wasn't, at least not in the last 20 years.

John Hohrn is a state senator that has actually done some decent things. He's the former State Director of Tourism and understands that you have to clean up the blight and make Jackson a desirable place to invest.
The World War II Museum in NOLA is the best museum in the United States. The new Mississippi History Museum and Civil Rights Museum are not far behind. That was Hohrn's doing.
I think Hohrn will be a "Set things in motion" mayor. He won't be the guy, but he is going to be the guy that makes the turn. There is plenty of money to fix infrastructure. If he can move forward on that and reducing crime, he will be a successful mayor.
Unfortunately, the last eight years have been run by the most corrupt administration in the country. Lots to clean up.

sounds encouraging
I hope that starts to happen, I have no reason to want Jackson to be a shithole forever.

Jackson found out what a lot of institutions have found out the hard way: somebody eventually has to work and be competent. There's a lot of inertia in the government machine, and probably people down the line who will do their jobs no matter how incompetent leadership is, but eventually shite breaks and someone has to actually lead and make hard choices instead of just redirecting public money to their posse.
You can get away with a local banana republic for a time, but the collapse is inevitable if you don't elect a minimally competent person every now & then.

Second generation grifter. Son of Chokwe Lumumba, or Edwin Finley Taliaferro when he was born in Detroit.

Chocolate Moonpie Sr was a separatist, and wanted to establish a Republic of New Afrika here.
I don’t remember Moonpie Jr talking much about New Afrika, but he did promise to make Jackson 'the most radical city on the planet’ shortly after being elected the first time.
Then he stole money for himself and his pals and got caught.

The business climate needs to be improved as well…you cross the Pearl River into Flowood, you see prosperity and new construction. Same with Ridgeland and Madison to the north. You go into Jackson for evidence of what was once there.

I’m shocked the people of Jackson voted him out. Better late than never I guess. But his damage done will last a while.
