Thune Blocks SAVE Act, Rejects Trump's Call to Fire Parliamentarian

Last updated

The SAVE Act, which requires proof of citizenship to register for federal elections and photo ID to vote, passed the House in February but stalled in the Senate needing 60 votes to beat a filibuster.

Thune said even scaled-back versions fall short and defended parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough's fair rulings against Trump's accusations of bias.

The dispute intensified after California's LA mayor primary, where late mail-in ballots shifted leads and drew fraud claims from Trump, though officials blame standard processing delays with no verified issues.

He actually said he doesn't have the votes again. He does with Vance voting.

Chune is such a smug POS.

"We just don't have the votes." Said every GOP Senate Majority Leader, ever.

Seems like dems always find a way to get their core legislation through when they are a narrow minority, but Rs can't get anything done with a majority.

Do you F'n job, hoss.

ETA: If dems take the senate in the midterms, it will take them about 15 seconds to nuke the "sacred" filibuster. And Chune will forever be more of a punchline than he already is.

Who's fault is it that there's not enough Republican votes in the Republican-controlled Senate to pass the SAVE Act?

You're the majority leader. Start acting like it, or step down and let someone else take charge.

There is some hope.

Thune doesn't seem to notice the urgency and importance on the Save America Act and doesn't care. He thinks it's just business as usual. He doesn't see the reckoning coming for his seat. We are way past the point of putting up with this style of leadership or lack there of.

Nope. When Biden tried to pass his $3 trillion BBB it was defeated on the votes of two democrats - Manchin and Sinema. DEmocrats have the same problems republicans do. The reason you think it’s worse for republicans is the same reason you think the refs favor your favorite team’s opponents - it just hurts more when it happens to you so you remember it.

Don’t recall 82 percent of Americans wanting this legislation passed. That’s the difference it’s really a non-partisan issue.
